Kenneth L. “Kenny” Holbrook

Kenneth L. “Kenny” Holbrook, 68, of Winamac, IN passed away at 9:40 AM Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital. He was born on February 6, 1951 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Cash and Vivian Tuley Holbrook. Kenny graduated from Winamac High School in 1969. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. On September 11, 1976, Kenny married Anne Schmicker at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac. She survives.

Marilyn Mae Rodgers Folkers

Marilyn Mae Rodgers Folkers, 85, passed away July 12th after a strongly fought battle with leukemia she is now reunited with family and friends she has not seen in such a long time. Marilyn Mae was born in Knox on May 24th, 1934 to Herman and Hazel Rodgers. She was the youngest of their six children – Don (Lil) Rodgers, Chuck Rodgers, Joe (Helen) Rodgers, Dean (Bernadine) Rodgers, and Lois (Bill) Flegal.

Doris “Eileen” Kemble

KNOX-Doris “Eileen” Kemble passed away Monday, July 1, 2019. She was born June 12, 1945 in Plymouth, IN to Charles and Violet Hasnerl. Eileen is the youngest of her siblings: Edward Hasnerl and Joyce Conkel. Eileen grew up on the Linden Poultry Farm in Knox and later met the love of her life at Knox High School. Ken Kemble would become her best friend and husband on October 6, 1963. They spent 55 incredible years together.

Linda Stage

Rosalima Lee “Linda” Stage, age 88, of Knox, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 at Catherine Kasper Home in Donaldson, Indiana. Linda was born July 20, 1930 in North Korea to Won Taek Lee and Mona Yei Paik Lee, both deceased. On October 15, 1955 she married William “Bill” Stage, he preceded her in death on February 10, 2016. She is survived by her children, Paul Thomas Stage Sr. of Avon, Indiana and Jacqueline Lee Wood of Louisville, Kentucky, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Theresa Lee Stage and Mary Margaret Runkle, 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Visitation will be Monday, July 8, 2019 from 3-8pm (CT) at M.C. Smith Funeral Home, with a rosary service at 7pm. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 10am (CT) at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Knox. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Hamlet.

 Louis Benjamin Herring

 

 

Louis Benjamin Herring, age 83, was called to live with Jesus in the Church Triumphant on June 30, 2019.

His funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 810 W. Talmer Ave., North Judson, IN 46366. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at O’Donnell Funeral Home in North Judson, and for an hour preceding the funeral at St. Peter’s. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Denham, IN.

A 1959 graduate of Concordia University, River Forest, IL, Mr. Herring served the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod as both principal and teacher in congregations in Ulm, AR, Higginsville, MO, Stuttgart, AR, Ft. Wayne, IN and North Judson, IN where he retired with 40 years of service. In 1976, Louis received a M.S. degree in Education from the University of St. Francis in Ft. Wayne. He began his teaching ministry in a one-room school house and ended his years as both principal and 7/8th grade teacher. His favorite subjects to teach were religion and geography.

During his years of service, Mr. Herring served on the Board of Regents at Concordia University, Seward, NE for 13 years, and also on the Board of Regents at Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN for 12 years. Mr. Herring actively served with the Lutheran Layman’s League, Kiwanis Club, led Bible classes, and was a strong proponent of the Lutheran Hour.

After his retirement in 1999, Louis continued to serve in the Indiana District by assisting congregations and serving on the District Board of Christian Education. He loved leading Sunday morning worship services, teaching Bible class, and produced a local radio program called “Sounds of Praise”.

The children of Louis Herring feel blessed to have been born and raised in a family whose focus was centered on Christ. Laughter, music, travel, photography, games, and family devotions were integral parts of the Herring household. The importance of a Christian education and service to others was impressed on the hearts and minds of his children.

Louis Herring was preceded in death by his father John Herring, mother Edna Frieda Heimbecher Herring, brother Elmer Herring, and sister Gertrude Fiehler. His parents died in 1945 and 1944 respectively. Louis Herring was then raised by the family of Bill Koenig, beside his childhood home, near Uniontown, MO.

Louis Herring is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia Kirchoff Herring of Stuttgart, AR; daughter Shirley Cronauer and husband Theo of Avon, IN; daughter Sharon McDonald and husband Michael of Midlothian, TX; son Paul Herring of North Judson, IN; and daughter Sandra Shimono and husband Dustin of Aldie, VA.

He is also survived by five grandchildren: Jacob Cronauer and wife Nicole, Matthew McDonald and fiance’ Tane, Jonathan McDonald, Emily Shimono, and Olivia Shimono. Louis Herring also is survived by a nephew, Pastor Robert Herring and wife Barb, and some nephews and nieces.

Ralph F. Tow

Ralph F. Tow, age 90, of Knox, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019. Ralph was born October 31, 1928 in Kokomo, Indiana to John Tow and Ruth Hurley Tow, both deceased. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army Reserves and had worked for 40 years for Hicksgas, retiring as manager of the Knox Hicksgas. On October 8, 1949 he married Gladys Duley Tow, she preceded him in death on June 9, 2015. Surviving are his sons, Mark Tow of Huntsville, Alabama and Paul Tow (Theresa) of Memphis, Indiana, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters. Delores J. “Dee” Galbreath

Delores J. “Dee” Galbreath, 85, of Winamac passed away peacefully Friday, June 28, 2019 at Pulaski County Healthcare Center.

Born on July 23, 1933 at Logansport, she was the daughter of the late Delmar “DJ” and Harriett (Bell) Brown.

She was a 1951 Star City High School graduate.

On May 20, 1951 she married Donald E. Galbreath, he survives.
