Republicans Win Big in Starke County

  
 

Starke County favored Republicans in many key races in Tuesday’s election. The race to replace Kent Danford as the District 3 County Commissioner ended with Charles Chesak gaining 59 percent of the vote, compared to 37 percent for Democrat Karen Tibbs. Meanwhile, Kathy Norem keeps her District 1 seat, after defeating Buddy Ringle by a margin of 65-to-35 percent.  Continue reading

Starke County Clerk Reassures Voters, Offers Tips to Verify Information

 
 

The Starke County Clerk’s Office has not experienced any unusual problems with voting machines or registrations. Clerk Vicki Cooley wants to reassure local voters given the ongoing Indiana State Police investigation into possible fraudulent voter registration and concerns that systems may be hacked. Starke County does use electronic voting machines, but they are not connected to the internet. Additionally Cooley says vendor MicroVote is certified by the federal and state government. Starke County Absentee Voting Information

  
 

This is the first day for prospective General Election voters to cast absentee ballots. Registered Starke County voters may do so on the second floor of the courthouse weekdays from 8 a.m. until noon and from 1 until 4 p.m. Please be sure to bring a government-issued photo ID. Starke Poll Workers Urged to Attend Voting Machine Tests, Training Sessions

 
 

Starke County poll workers are encouraged to attend tomorrow’s vote machine testing if possible to familiarize themselves with the technology. Vendor MicroVote will test the electronic machines at 1 p.m. outside the clerk’s office at the Starke County Courthouse. Members of the public are also welcome to come see how the ballot will appear and how the machines work. Continue reading
