The town of North Judson has executed its lease with First Farmers Bank and Trust to proceed with the construction of a town maintenance building. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry explained the town board has been in contact with Morton’s Building, who will be constructing the building, and they are working with them on the schedule.
Delay in Construction of North Judson Salt Shed
The North Judson salt shed construction has been put on hold, according to Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry, who told WKVI that Town Superintendent Marshall Horstmann received a notice from ClearSpan informing him of the delay. Henry said ClearSpan is constructing the structure for the shed, but due to a shortage of crew members, the work must be postponed.
North Judson Fire Dept. to Purchase Pressure Washer
The North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department will soon be cleaning their equipment with some real power, after the town board this week approved a purchase order for Fire Chief Joe Leszek to purchase a pressure washer. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said the pressure washer will be installed in the fire station at a cost of $3200.
Construction of North Judson Salt Shed to Begin Dec. 3
The new salt shed in the town of North Judson is still under construction, but Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said they’re making progress and the concrete floor has been finished. Next up are the cement blocks to be placed on the concrete floor, and following that, ClearSpan will be constructing the structure for the shed.
Materials for the building are expected to be delivered on Nov. 27 with construction expected to begin on Dec. 3.
Henry also said the board held the first reading of the 2014 salary ordinance, and they will move on to the second and third readings on Dec. 2. Following that, the board will advertise the ordinance and put it into effect on Jan. 1.
North Judson to Develop Strategic Plan
The town of North Judson may soon have a document to help guide its development for years to come, as Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry told WKVI that the town is working on its strategic plan.
While there have been no specific details released yet about the upcoming plan development, Henry said the town is getting information from the Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission and it’s likely that officials will work with KIRPC to develop the document. However, nothing has been finalized.
Henry also noted that utility crews started Monday on the first fall leaf pickup for the community, and they will continue with that this week until they’ve made their rounds of the town. Henry said the town will likely have another round of leaf pickups after the leaves have finished falling.
North Judson Town Council Modifies Unsafe Building Ordinance
The North Judson Town Council is beefing up its ordinance regarding unsafe structures. The revised ordinance passed on first reading last week contains appropriate references to Indiana code and spells out the building inspector’s authority to take action when a property is deemed unsafe. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry tells WKVI News the second and third readings of the proposed ordinance will take place at the next town council meeting on Monday, Nov. 4.
North Judson to Hold Final Brush Pick-Up Soon
The town of North Judson is planned to hold their final brush pick-up for the year during the week of Oct. 21, and Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said people must have their brush next to the alley, or the street if they do not have an alley near their home, before the morning of Oct. 21. She said this pick-up is only for brush, and leaves will take place later.
North Judson Town Board Adopts Budget After Public Hearing
The North Judson Town Board this week held their budget adoption hearing, and according to Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry, only one member of the public was present and no comments were made. The board adopted the budget and signed a resolution to that effect, allowing the board to proceed with the next step: submitting the budget to the Department of Local Government Finance for review.
North Judson Town Board Approves Two Purchase Orders
The North Judson Town Board met this week for a short regular meeting, during which two purchase orders were approved, according to Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry. She explained the board approved a purchase order related to the repair of two railroad crossings and an order requested by Town Superintendent Marshall Horstmann.
North Judson 2014 Budget Passed, Now Goes to DLGF
The second budget workshop held by the North Judson Town Board to review their 2014 budget brought out no members of the public, despite being an open workshop. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said the meeting lasted about a half hour and included a few minor changes, including the division of two appropriation accounts.

In wake of the North Judson Town Board’s public hearing regarding the town’s 2014 budget, Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry has announced that the board will soon hold a second budget workshop to review the budget. She said the budget should be finalized after this workshop and, afterward, would be ready to be legally advertised.
North Judson Town-Wide Yard Sale a Success, May Become Annual
Yard sale enthusiasts flocked to North Judson this past weekend to take advantage of the cornucopia of sales around the town. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said the town was chock-full of cars and visitors searching for good deals at the more than 46 yard sales present on the map provided by the town. Henry said she traveled the area and asked some of the residents holding sales how they felt the day was going, and many responded favorably.
North Judson Town Board Approves Purchase Orders for Town Supt.
The North Judson Town Board last week approved three purchase orders for the town superintendent. According to Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry, Town Superintendent Marshall Horstmann told the board that a water meter at the apartments on Maryland Street needed replaced due to a broken internal part at a cost of $1000.
North Judson Town Wide Yard Sale Approaching; Town Selling Old Signs
The town of North Judson is gearing up for their town-wide yard sale event, planned for Saturday, Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said they currently have about 46 people in town signed up with five more people outside of town registered for yard sales, and Henry said they’re working on putting the maps together to have them available on Friday with a list of yard sale locations.
North Judson Receives Update from INDOT on U.S. 30 Railroad Repairs
The town of North Judson received an update on the repairs being done to the railroad crossing on U.S. 30 near Hanna. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said the town board learned that INDOT awarded the bid to E&L Paving, and Henry explained that INDOT took the bids and told the council who submitted the lowest bid for the council to approve.
North Judson Town Board Again Revises Schedule of Fees Ordinance
The North Judson Town Board once again postponed the first reading of the town’s schedule of fees ordinance, and Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said that was because they once again made a minor revision to the ordinance and will have to put it off until the next meeting on May 20. But, since the town is facing no particular deadline to get the ordinance passed, Henry said they’re taking their time to ensure they get it right.
North Judson Resident Seeking Zoning Variance; Public Hearing Scheduled
The North Judson Town Board Monday night heard from some concerned citizens regarding a zoning variance request from a town resident who is seeking to run an internet gun sale service from his home. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry explained that resident Jason LaMantia Sr. is seeking a variance from single-family residential zoning to a commercial zoning in order to allow him to run the business, but Henry said a number of citizens attended the meeting to gather more information on the request.
North Judson Town Board Reviews Schedule of Fees
The North Judson Town Board last week reviewed the town’s schedule of fee ordinance and made a few small revisions. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said the board will likely hold the first reading of the ordinance at their meeting on May 6.
Fire Hydrant Flushing Scheduled in North Judson
North Judson utility crews will be flushing fire hydrants in a few days. Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry says they’ll start the preventive maintenance process around 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Should residents experience discolored or murky water during this time, they should leave their tap run until the water is clear.
North Judson Town Board Discusses Yard Sale Ordinance
The North Judson Town Board this week reviewed an ordinance regulating yard sales, and Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry said the new ordinance is basically a combination of the old ordinance with the one currently in the codification book. She said the board took the ordinance for review and they hope to have it up to date within the next month at the most.
