The North Judson Town Council members will hold the second reading over an ordinance to vacate a 16-foot alley between Dahlke and Lyle Streets when they meet tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The Medaryville Town Council continues planning for a new water tower. Last week, representatives from Commonwealth Engineers reviewed the different types of water towers with council members, and made some recommendations for replacing the town’s current one, according to Clerk-Treasurer Judy Harwood.
A public hearing over a proposed grant application was held during the North Judson Town Council meeting earlier this week.
On Monday, KIRPC Executive Director Edwin Buswell explained that the grant application requesting a $550,000 wastewater/drinking water grant is due to the Office of Community and Rural Affairs on Friday. The potential of a supplemental round of grant funding being offered through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs could provide more financial assistance for proposed projects in the Town of North Judson. Vince Sommers of Common Wealth Engineers came before the North Judson Town Council members to fill them in on the process so far and to alert them of the potential supplemental round of grant funding.
The town is pursuing SRF Drinking Water Funds for their water system improvement project. Sommers said that any time federal money is utilized an environmental impact report must be conducted. The State Revolving Fund reviewed the preliminary engineering report for the water system improvements and instructed the organization who helped secure the grant, Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission (KIRPC), to advertise a finding of no significant impact. The North Judson Town Council is taking steps to upgrade the town’s water infrastructure. Council members voted Monday to proceed with a plan to rehabilitate the two water towers, add a well, and upgrade the existing well pumps, among other improvements.
The North Judson Town Council has taken the first step toward upgrading the town’s wastewater infrastructure.
North Judson officials hope to nail down some plans for water and wastewater upgrades this morning. The town plans to upgrade its combined sewer overflow system to bring it into compliance with Indiana Department of Environmental Management regulations. Upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant and water facilities are also planned.
North Judson’s utility rates will be discussed during a special town council meeting this evening. Accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates has been studying the town’s rates. Representatives are expected to share their findings with the town council tonight at 6:00. Continue reading
