Conflicting perspectives have set Railroad Township on edge, but state statute may ultimately settle the matter of a contract with volunteer firefighters.
Railroad Township has some extra work to do before adopting a contract with its fire department.
During a meeting Wednesday night, the agreement between the fire department and the township was considered for approval. The Township Advisory Board, however, was concerned with some of the language in the contract.
The Knox School Board has adopted its budget for 2017, and Superintendent A.J. Gappa says it looks quite similar to the previous year’s document.
The Knox School Board has ratified its master teacher agreement with some teachers seeing a bit of a bump in salary.
During Monday’s School Board meeting, it was noted that Knox teachers have not seen a salary increase in about three years. That is largely explained by declining enrollment in rural school corporations in past years.
The Town of Culver has agreed to sign a contract with Marshall County to provide dispatch services to the community.
It was decided earlier this year that Marshall County would share the cost burden with its local communities and Townships given the cost of new equipment. A board has been formed to oversee the centralized dispatch service and determine its usage and cost sharing methods.
The Culver School Board has signed on to a partnership between the the school corporation and the Town of Culver, in an effort to reduce costs and share resources. Town and school officials have been working for the past few months on an intergovernmental agreement. Continue reading

Knox Community Schools Superintendent A.J. Gappa says he plans to fulfill what remains of his contract.
Gappa spoke with WKVI News after it was learned he was provided written notice of non-renewal. That means members of the Knox School Board voted not to further extend the contract they have with the Superintendent during their meeting, Monday.
