Some Culver Community Schools programs will be getting a boost, thanks to a pair of donations accepted by the school board Monday. “Culvers Lion’s Club gave the Spanish Club $500 for their Costa Rica trip, and the Culver PTO has given both $500 to the elementary and then to the middle school reading program,” explained Superintendent Karen Shuman.
Culver Lions Club Seeking Donations
As part of the Culver Lions Club’s participation in the 100th Anniversary of the International Lions Club Convention, the organization is collecting new white tube socks to distribute to those who are homeless.
The distribution will take place during the convention in Chicago.
Culver Stellar Communities Committee Projects Gaining Community Support
The Culver Stellar Communities Committee recently chose a lighter, quicker and cheaper project for this year’s Stellar Community application and the project is gaining support of community entities.
As a lighter, quicker and cheaper project, the committee chose the installation of recycled plastic benches and a story walk featuring Culver history along a proposed new bike trail in the Culver Town Park. It is the hope of the committee to build partnerships as part of the application process.
Culver School Board to Get Update on ISTEP Testing
The Culver School Board will get an update on this year’s ISTEP testing tonight. Middle/High School Assistant Principal and Curriculum Director Julie Berndt is scheduled to present ISTEP testing information, according to the advance agenda. Continue reading
Culver Council Inks Agreement with Lions Club
The Culver Town Council and Lions Club recently signed a long-term lease for use of the train depot in the town park. The 25-year contract with the club for meeting space takes effect in January. It’s 10 years longer than past agreements between the town and club.
Culver Lions Club to Host Program on Indiana’s Pork Production
Dr. Monty Moss of Moss Farm in Burnettsville will be speaking to the Culver Lions Club on Wednesday, October 12th to talk about Indiana pork production.
The program, “The Pork Industry: More Than Just the Other White Meat”, will showcase the industry’s rural economic impact plus ongoing programs to enhance the nutritional quality of pork, to protect the environment and to treat livestock humanely. New technologies and management systems have allowed U.S. pork producers to trim pork’s fat content 31 percent since 1983.
