Another Pulaski County solar farm has gotten the green light from the board of zoning appeals. The BZA approved a special exception Monday for the Moss Creek Solar project, with Board President Derrick Stalbaum abstaining. That was despite opposition from members of the public, as well as questions about the legality of the board’s actions from both opponents and the developer itself.
North Judson-San Pierre school officials are voicing their opposition to efforts to expand voucher programs, but stopped short of asking the school board to vote on a formal resolution. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin recently told board members that the proposed legislation would direct public school dollars to private and charter schools that don’t have to meet the same accountability standards.

A proposed solar farm has passed another approval round with the Pulaski County Board of Zoning Appeals. Board members approved a special exception request for the Mammoth Solar project Monday. It adds almost 4,700 acres to the project’s footprint.
A confined hog feeding operation will be getting a tax break from Pulaski County. The county council voted six-to-one last week to grant a tax abatement for a facility being built by Derrick and Abbie Stalbaum in Rich Grove Township.

The Pulaski County Advisory Plan Commission has a new
member. Tyler Gutwein was appointed last week by the county commissioners. He
replaces Rick Stone, who did not seek reappointment.
The Indiana Department of Education does an annual student count in schools and their findings are used to determine state funding. When the average daily membership count took place at North Judson-San Pierre on Friday, September 15th, the ADM count was 1,031 students. The North Judson-San Pierre School Board welcomed two new members and elected a new president Tuesday. Jackson Township Representative Gerald Bacon and Railroad Township Representative Susan McCormack were both sworn in, according to Superintendent Annette Zupin.
The North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation is once again bracing for low test scores. The results from the spring 2016 ISTEP haven’t yet been released publicly, but Superintendent Annette Zupin is already reassuring members of the public that steps are being taken to improve them. Overwhelming public support of an elected North Judson-San Pierre School Board was not enough to overcome the estimated $15,000 cost to transition from the current appointed body. Members voted four to one last night to maintain the status quo. The most recent appointee, Derrick Stalbaum of Rich Grove Township, cast the lone vote in favor of transition via community committee. The Town of Medaryville has a new council member. President Derrick Stalbaum resigned recently due to his relocation outside the town limits. The Pulaski County Democratic Party named Robert Schultz to the council, effective immediately, to fill out the remainder of his term. It is up this year. Continue reading →
Medaryville Clerk-Treasurer Judy Harwood swears in new council member Corrie Hauptli
The Town of Medaryville has a new council member. Clerk-Treasurer Judy Harwood swore Corrie Hauptli in this morning. She was appointed by the Pulaski County Democratic Party Chairman to replace longtime council president Gene Payne, who recently stepped down. Derrick Stalbaum was recently elected president and was present at the swearing-in ceremony. Carolyn Hagar will serve as vice-president. The appointment was made in accordance with state law. All three Medaryville council seats are up for reelection in 2015.
