The Starke County Emergency Management Agency announced that Watch Travel Level advisory has been issued for Starke County roadways due to potentially dangerous conditions.

Storm Damage Assessments Underway Locally
A few local counties are among the 29 in which local, state and federal officials have started assessing damage from recent storms. The assessments are part of the multi-step process to determine whether Indiana qualifies for public assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to repair damage caused by severe weather and flooding between June 7th and July 29th. Such assistance reimburses government and some nonprofit agencies for eligible expenses. Locally the list of counties being evaluated includes Marshall, Fulton and Pulaski. Continue reading

Marshall County Council Approves Emergency Fund Ordinance
The Marshall County Council held a public hearing Monday morning on an ordinance permitting procurement of emergency funds in the event of an emergency.
The ordinance was brought forth by Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery. In the case of an emergency and funds are needed, the ordinance allows the funds to be approved by just the president of the Marshall County Commissioners and the president of the Marshall County Council. A special meeting with all members of the governing bodies will not need to be called to approve these expenses.
Marshall County Commissioners Approve Ordinances After Public Hearing
The Marshall County Commissioners held two public hearings Monday that dealt with the Emergency Management Agency.
The first public hearing was for an ordinance regarding the procurement of emergency funds. This ordinance allows EMA Director Clyde Avery to meet with only the county commission president and the county council president if the county experiences a catastrophic disaster and is in need of emergency supplies. The presidents of both county government entities can sign for appropriations needed without having to call a special meeting of both boards to approve those emergency funds.
Marshall County Commissioners Discuss Emergency Fund Procedure for EMA Dept.
The Marshall County Commissioners will be approving resolution spelling out the procedure in obtaining emergency funds for the Emergency Management Agency.
In the case of a disaster, a way to appropriate emergency funds to the EMA Department will follow the state guidelines and will mirror the same procedure that the health department follows. The resolution will be ratified by both the commissioners and the county council.
