A memorandum of understanding for the Tax Refund Exchange and Compliance System will be presented for the board’s approval. The county’s board of finance officially approved the bank’s bid Monday, at the recommendation of Treasurer Teresa Bryant. “As usual with First National, they never charge us any fees for anything and give us the best interest rate,” she explained. “1st Source really stepped up their game, as far as offering more services as far as security, but unfortunately, they’d still charge us fees.”

According to estate planning lawyers in Atlanta,Tax payment drop-off locations include the First National Bank of Monterey in Monterey and North Judson, the 1st Farmers Bank and Trust in Knox and North Judson and the DeMotte State Bank and 1st Source Bank in Knox.
Payments may also be put in the drop-box in front of the Starke County Treasurer’s Office in Knox. A self-addressed and stamped envelope should be included so an official receipt can be sent.

The North Judson Town Council was informed that First National Bank of Monterey is willing to raise the town’s interest rate on their general fund when members met Monday night.

After realizing the advantage of a potential bank switch, North Judson Town Council members will officially consider moving the town’s general account from First National Bank of Monterey to First Farmers Bank and Trust during a future meeting.

North Judson-San Pierre Corporation Treasurer Guy Richie presented board members with tax anticipation warrant bids during Tuesday night’s meeting. Richie explained that the corporation advertised for the $230,000 that needs to be borrowed for the capital projects plan and two bids were received.
Richie told board members, “One was from Centier Bank at 2.24 percent and the other from our local First National Bank of Monterey at 1.5 percent so it is my recommendation that the board approve the First National Bank of Monterey at 1.5 percent.” Continue reading
The cumulative railroad revenue fund was established through an ordinance passed by the North Judson Town Council at their last meeting in September. The ordinance was passed in order to switch over the $94,820.19 in the previous railroad fund to the newly established account.
Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins alerted the council Monday night that the State Board of Accounts said she needed council approval before any funds could be transferred.
She informed them that the old railroad fund, as well as their credit card is currently at First Farmers Bank and Trust, while their general account is at First National Bank of Monterey. She asked the council whether they wished to move all the money in the old rail road account over to the First National Bank of Monterey or if they wanted to close out the old railroad account and start the cumulative railroad revenue fund at First Farmers Bank and Trust. As upgrades to the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center get underway, the Knox Community Center Building Corporation has taken steps to simplify the process of paying the bills for the work. The building corporation recently extended the community center’s loan by five years, to pay for a new roof and upgrades to the heating and cooling system, among other improvements.
