Culver Takes More Steps in Preparation for Stellar Communities’ Designation

The Culver Town Council has authorized spending funds related to the state’s Stellar Communities program.

During their meeting on Tuesday, a resolution was considered that is part of the application process for state grant assistance and planning. Culver was named a finalist as part of Stellar Communities earlier this year, but a second phase of the application is anticipated later this year.

Pulaski Frost Law Still Under Consideration for 2016

Pulaski County CourthouseThere has been no action yet, but Pulaski County may be inching closer to the implementation of its own Frost Law.

Discussion was had during Monday night’s meeting about when an ordinance might be completed. Under a frost law, commercial trucking traffic is disallowed from traveling on certain roadways between February and late April. That’s considered when concrete is in a deep thaw and susceptible to potholes.

Consulting Firm Anticipates Savings for Pulaski Bridge Repair Work

During Monday night’s Pulaski County Commissioners meeting, Jeff Larrison – a representative of the company – provided the information. Pulaski County saw several of its bridges receive low quality ratings, meaning they are subject to annual inspection.

Area Schools Could Benefit From Community College Proposal

 Ivy Tech Community College says they may become more accessible if one of President Barack Obama’s proposals makes it through Congress.

The President announced last week his intent to significantly reduce the cost of attending community college. The multi-billion dollar program intends to largely pay for the cost of the first two years of tuition for students maintaining a certain grade point average. This could have implications locally.

Knox Schools Await Potential Education Funding Reforms

The Indiana General Assembly is anticipated to consider certain reforms to funding education, and Knox Community Schools is considering their options.

Governor Mike Pence has said he wants the legislative session that started Tuesday to be an “education session.” Discussions have included lifting the cap on education vouchers and reforming the school funding formula.
