NWEA Results Relayed to Knox School Board Members
The Knox Community School Board members heard from Elementary Principal Glenn Barnes and Middle School Principal Dave Miller who presented the NWEA analysis during the board’s recent meeting.
The Northwest Evaluation Association, or NWEA, test is a state-aligned computer-based testing system which adapts to the child in real-time as the test progresses for a pinpoint picture of learning achievement and readiness.
Test Scores Show Growth in Knox Elementary, Middle Schools
The NWEA scores showed gains at the Knox Community Elementary School and at the Knox Middle School.
Elementary Principal Glenn Barnes showed the board the statistics from the reading and math tests from the beginning of the year through the May test. Students in 4th grade showed the slowest scores in growth and Barnes assured the Knox Community School Board that the staff will target areas to help students improve the scores.
Knox School Board Approves Handbook Changes
The Knox Community School Board took action to approve several handbook changes for the next school year.
Changes were made to the handbook regarding cell phone use. High School Assistant Principal Dr. Michael Bendicsen noted that the current handbook states that students are to turn off their cell phones and keep them in their locker throughout the school day.
Knox Community School Board Approves Student Handbook Changes
The Knox Community School Board members approved student handbook changes at all building levels at their meeting Monday night.
Elementary Principal, Glenn Barnes, requested that the handbook reflect changes for telephone use by the students. Beginning in August, students may have cell phones with the restriction that they are kept in backpacks during class time and on bus rides.
Also, students who ride the bus on longer bus routes will now be able to use electronic devices while riding to and from school.
Knox Community School Board Members are Sworn into Office; Board Honors 5th Grade Students
Knox Community School Board members Gary Dulin, Mary Lynn Ritchie and Mike Yankauskas were sworn into office by Knox City Court Judge Charlie Hasnerl on Monday night. The three candidates were reelected into office in the November 2010 General Election.
During the Spotlight on Success portion School Board meeting, the Board commended 5th grade students, Haley Wilkinson and Cheyenne Arrendondo. They submitted Christmas ornaments and a story about their ornaments to Indiana’s First Lady, Cheri Daniels, and their submissions were selected to be hung on the Statehouse Christmas tree. Knox School Board Gets Report on AYP, PL 221
The Knox School Board heard the Adequate Yearly Progress, or AYP, and the Public Law 221 results at its meeting Monday night. Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Peggy Shidaker, and the three building principals, Glenn Barnes, Steve Cronk and Dr. Elizabeth Ratliff, explained the results to the Board.
