North Judson Residents Encouraged to Help Secure Competitive Grant for Water System Improvements
A public hearing was held over a $550,000 OCRA wastewater/drinking water grant during last week’s North Judson Town Council meeting.
Executive Director of Kankakee-Iroquois Regional Planning Commission Edwin Buswell provided some information about the proposed Office of Community and Rural Affairs grant, explaining that it will be utilized for various water system improvements. He said the local match of $1,268,000 would come from the state revolving loan fund.
One individual asked about the potential impact this could have on taxes. Buswell replied that he believes the rate increase that was implemented earlier this year would cover the cost and no additional increases will be necessary. Continue reading
Public Hearing Tonight for North Judson Sewer, Water Projects
The North Judson Town Council will hold a public hearing tonight on proposed water and sewer upgrades. The town plans to pursue a loan through the State Revolving Fund, as well as grant funding from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, to rehabilitate the two water towers, add a well, and upgrade the existing well pumps, among other improvements.

North Judson Council Approves Water and Sewer Rate Hikes
Water and sewer rate hikes were approved by the North Judson Town Council Monday. The average sewer bill will go up 25 percent or just over nine dollars, according to accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates. Water bills will increase by 30 percent or $4.60, on average. Bass Lake Beach and Campground Lessee Credited 2017’s Rent Payment, Following Well Upgrades
The Bass Lake Beach and Campground’s operator won’t have to pay rent to Starke County in 2017, and it’s 2018 payment will be nearly cut in half. The Starke County Park Board decided Tuesday that upgrades to the facility’s well system made by Callahan Development, LLC were capital improvements, meaning the cost could be subtracted from the company’s rent payment. Bench Warrant Issued for Knox Business Owner
Starke Circuit Judge Kim Hall this week issued a bench warrant for a Knox business owner who is alleged to have violated a court order. James Campbell, who owns multiple businesses at the southwest corner of U.S. 35 and Toto Road, has failed to submit a site assessment plan to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, according to the court filing.
