Drug Search Conducted at Knox Middle School
Starke County K9 Terror with handler Rob Olejniczak, along with other K9 officers from Pulaski County, Marshall County and Plymouth, conducted a drug sweep of the Knox Middle School this week. Additional officers were asked to join the Starke County K9 unit due to the size of the middle school.
According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Office, the K9s swept lockers in addition to vehicles in the parking lots. No illegal substances were found on school grounds.
ISTEP Testing Delayed at Knox Schools
The icy conditions yesterday, causing cancellation of a school day, also delayed the start of ISTEP testing in the Knox Middle School. Testing there was scheduled to start Tuesday.
At Monday’s meeting of the Knox School Board, Superintendent A.J. Gappa reviewed the constant changes in the ISTEP provisions by the State. In a visual presentation, he compared last year’s testing plan with the current year.
KMS Teacher Resigns, No Charges Filed in Connection With Scuffle
Criminal charges will not be filed against a Knox Middle School teacher involved a shoving incident last month with a sixth grade student. A video camera at the school captured the scuffle, which police say occurred when the teacher got between two children running in the classroom and pushed one into a table. Continue reading
Enjoy the Sounds of the Season at Knox Music Programs
Annual Christmas music programs are scheduled at the Knox Elementary School starting with 3rd grade students today. The 2nd grade, tomorrow; 1st grade, Wednesday, Dec. 10th; and kindergarten students, Thursday, Dec. 11th. All programs begin at 6 p.m. in the Knox Elementary School gymnasium. A “Book Fair” for students and parents follows each concert.
Knox Police Department Investigating Battery Incident
The Knox City Police Department is investigating an alleged battery incident at the Knox Middle School.
The incident occurred on Nov. 6 where a child was chasing another student around a table inside the classroom. The teacher stepped in to stop the action and pushed the student into a counter, according to a police report. The parents of the child called the police department to file a report. Continue reading
Three Starke County Schools to Take Part in Manufacturer’s Day
The Knox Middle School is hosting Manufacturer’s Day tomorrow. A total of 15 local companies will have booths set up for 7th graders from Knox, Oregon-Davis and North Judson-San Pierre to visit and learn about what they do. Students will also learn what qualifications are necessary to work there. Knox Middle School Principal Joshua Pugh says hands-on learning like this really helps students think about their futures.
Knox School Board Approves Administrative Changes
Back to school season is upon us.
Teachers are prepping their lessons and classrooms for their incoming students, students are choosing new school ensembles as well as the best supplies to buy and administrators are settling in to their new positions. The Knox Community School Corporation has shuffled around their principals and added on a new member.
