Knox Council to Reorganize, Consider Utility Rate Increases
The Knox City Council will start the new year with some unfinished business when they meet this evening. They will consider ordinances to raise water and sewer rates on second reading. They’re based on a rate study conducted for the city by accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates. It took into account infrastructure needs for maintaining both services at appropriate levels. Executive Action on Guns Draws Divided Reaction
Indiana’s elected representatives in Congress are reacting to action taken by President Barack Obama on the subject on guns.
Following statements made this week from the executive branch, Republican Senator Dan Coats said the President is trying to “sidestep Congress” to legislate. Coats went as far as to say that the changes proposed through executive action are unconstitutional.
Knox School Board Reorganizes
Kirk Bennett was elected president of the Knox School Board when it held its 2016 organization meeting last night. Gary Dulin and Wendy McInire were elected vice president and secretary respectively. City of Knox Christmas Tree Pickup Begins
The City of Knox will begin picking up natural Christmas trees today. They should be placed at the curb in the same location one would use for seasonal brush pickup. All ornaments and tinsel should be removed.
Trees can also be taken to the compost drop-off site behind city hall. The city’s trash contractor will not pick up natural trees.

New K9 Apprehends Fleeing Fugitive
A Knox man who tried to flee from a Starke County Sheriff’s Deputy late Monday night didn’t get very far, thanks to the newest member of the department. Det. Sgt. Outgoing Knox Council Members Recognized for Service
It was the last meeting for a couple of members of the Knox City government.

Following Zoning Approval, Tractor Supply Opening Remains Mystery
Now that zoning approval has been granted, additional steps can be taken to open a Tractor Supply Company location in Knox.
During Monday night’s meeting of the Knox Board of Zoning Appeals, a representative of Tractor Supply Co. requested a variance be granted to allow for the use of outdoor storage space at the Knox Mall – the proposed site of the store.
Coroner Space Scrapped from Old Jail Renovatoins
The extensive renovations of the old Starke County Jail in downtown Knox will not include space for the coroner. The county council and commissioners made that decision Monday night when they formally agreed to proceed with reconfiguring that building for the probation department and Starke County Community Corrections.
