Representatives from the Gary Sinise Foundation paid a visit to the LaCrosse Volunteer Fire Department Wednesday afternoon for a press conference.
The purpose of the conference was to publically recognize the grant worth nearly $100,000 that was awarded to the Department through the Foundation’s First Responders Outreach Program and to unveil the equipment that was ordered as a result of that funding contribution.

Three local fire departments are teaming up to provide temporary coverage to Railroad Township. The North Judson-Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department announced on Facebook Thursday that Chief Joe Leszek, along with the chiefs of the LaCrosse and Medaryville-White Post Township volunteer fire departments, have agreed to cover Railroad Township on a non-contracted basis.

Knox Center Township and LaCrosse Volunteer Fire Departments Assist DNR With Rescue
On Sunday morning, members of the Knox Center Township Fire Department joined forces with the LaCrosse Volunteer Fire Department as well as DNR Conservation Officers to rescue an elderly individual from his home as floodwaters encroached.
Indiana DNR Law representatives from district 10 report that firefighters deployed a boat to rescue the resident and Conservation Officers deployed another boat as a secondary rescue vessel. Continue reading
LaCrossee Volunteer Firefighter Faces Drunk Driving Charges
An area volunteer firefighter faces drunk driving charges stemming from an apparent Saturday night drinking binge. Dennis Masek, 37, of LaCrosse was arrested by officers from the LaPorte County Police early Sunday morning after a motorist reportedly had to swerve to avoid his truck, which was stopped in the middle of U.S. 421 about two miles north of LaCrossee. WSBT-TV reports the driver asked Masek to pull into a nearby driveway to get off the highway. Instead, he reportedly drove past the driveway and into a ditch. Continue reading
