Suspect Reportedly Shot in Thanksgiving Day Shootout with LaPorte County Police

A suspect was reportedly shot by LaPorte County Police Thursday. Indiana State Police say the Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 7000 block of County Road 500 West, at around 5:15 p.m. When they got there, officers say they were immediately met by gunfire, and a police vehicle was struck. Officers reportedly shot back, hitting the suspect.

Wanted LaPorte County Man Arrested following Police Chase Sunday

A LaPorte County man wanted on suspicion of dealing in a controlled substance was taken into custody Sunday, but not before police say he tried to get away on a motorcycle and then checked into a Michigan City motel. LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies say they went to a home in the 3700 block of East County Road 100 South at about 6:15 p.m. to try to locate Tyler T. Lukac, 26.

Westville Correctional Facility Officer Arrested on Suspicion of Trafficking

An officer at the Westville Correctional Facility has been arrested on suspicion of trying to traffic drugs. The Indiana Department of Correction says Correctional Officer Dennis Cousins, 27, of Hammond, is accused of trying to bring drugs into the facility when coming on shift Friday. The investigation reportedly turned up what officers suspect to be Suboxone, a prescription drug used to treat people who are dependent on opioids.

LaPorte Woman Accused of Trying to Traffic Synthetic Marijuana into Westville Correctional Facility

A LaPorte woman was arrested Monday, after she allegedly tried to bring suspected synthetic marijuana into the Westville Correctional Facility during visitation. The Indiana Department of Correction says Ashlee Bowman, 27, was taken to the LaPorte County Jail, pending a Level 5 felony charge of trafficking with an offender.

A Kosciusko County woman was arrested for allegedly trying to bring drugs into the Westville Correctional Facility over the weekend. Investigators with the Indiana Department of Correction believe Rita Sellers, 46, of Silver Lake, was attempting to traffic drugs while visiting an offender on Saturday. LaPorte Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect

Authorities in LaPorte have arrested a man accused of robbing the Family Express on Pine Lake Road Thursday afternoon. Jacob Borders, 35, came into the store around 2:30 p.m., demanded money from the clerk and threatened to shoot her if she didn’t comply, according to a police department news release. She gave him money, and he fled in a tan Ford Explorer. Occupants of that vehicle flagged down officers en route to the call and told them they gave the suspect a ride to Family Express so he could use the ATM. They say Borders got back into the truck, told them he had just robbed the store and they needed to hurry. They told the police they ordered him out of the vehicle and said they believed he went into a home in the 400 block of Pine Lake Avenue. Continue reading

LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office Investigating Child Neglect

 
 

The LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office may file child neglect charges against three adults after a 12-month old was reportedly seen wandering outside the Country Acres Apartments Tuesday wearing only a diaper. When officers from the LaPorte Police Department arrived, they found the child’s father holding the boy. The man told the officers he came to the apartment the night before to visit a female friend. A second woman was also there, according to a news release from the LaPorte Police Department. The adults drank together, and all three grownups and their four respective children spent the night. LaPorte Man Allegedly Fires Gun at Passing Train

 
 

A case has been forwarded to the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s office that provides the details of a LaPorte man who allegedly fired two gun shots in the 1400 block of Lake Street.

On Friday, March 28, LaPorte police officers found a man sitting in a chair outside an abandoned building. The 20-year-old man reportedly told officers that he was upset over some personal issues. He denied having any weapons, but police found two knives in his pockets and a .357 revolver in his pocket along with ammunition.
