LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office to Take Part in School Bus Safety Enforcement Campaign

Police will be on the lookout for school bus stop-arm violations this spring. For the next couple of months, more than 200 law enforcement agencies around Indiana will be taking part in the Stop Arm Violation Enforcement program (SAVE). Vehicles traveling in both directions are required to stop for a bus with its red lights flashing and stop-arm extended, unless they’re on the other side of a median.

Three Arrested after LaPorte County Police Report Finding Cocaine, Firearms during Toll Road Traffic Stops

Three New York State men were arrested after separate traffic stops on the Indiana Toll Road reportedly turned up cocaine and handguns. LaPorte County sheriff’s deputies say Nikia L. Wright, 26, of Buffalo, was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of dealing in cocaine, after officers say they found a significant amount of a white powder substance in the vehicle he was driving.

LaPorte Man Allegedly Refuses to Stop for Police, Loses Control of Vehicle on Snow-Covered Roads

Cutting off a police officer in traffic and trying to lead him on a pursuit on snow-covered roadways reportedly led to a crash and an arrest for a LaPorte man. A LaPorte County sheriff’s deputy says he was driving west on State Road 2 approaching J Street around 6:30 Tuesday morning, when a vehicle suddenly exited a business in front of him.

Herd of Cattle Goes for a Run on U.S. 35 in LaPorte County

Drivers on U.S. 35 in LaPorte County Saturday afternoon found themselves sharing the highway with a herd of cattle. The Holstein calves took off from their home near U.S. 35 and County Road 500 South, according to a LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. An off-duty deputy reportedly spotted the herd running southbound in the northbound lanes. When the calves got to U.S. 6, they continued eastbound.
