Mayor of Knox Provides Community Crossings Project Update at City Council Meeting
Knox Mayor Dennis Estok alerted city council members that work has begun on a Community Crossings Grant project. At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Estok explained that crews recently began removing old curbs and sidewalks on Water Street.
As a part of the project that was submitted to INDOT and subsequently approved, curbs and sidewalks will be replaced and repaving on Water Street, as well as Main Street from U.S. 35 to Mound Street, will be completed. Continue reading
Local Artists to Collaborate on Mural for Serenity Gardens in Knox
Mayor Dennis Estok shared some information with Knox City Council members about a mural that will be put up on the wall behind Serenity Gardens located at the corner of Main and Lake Streets in downtown Knox.
At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Estok said that he met with some local talent recently and brainstormed some ideas about how to tackle the project.
“We do have three local artists, Joe Eskridge, Zac Hunter and Ryan Ehresman, they’re all three working together,” Estok explained, “What they’re going to do is basically, they’re going do three different themes and what I want them to do is bring the themes in and invite the public to view them and everything.” Continue reading
Police, Fire and EMS Respond to 1-Vehicle Accident in Knox
Knox City Police Chief Harold Smith reported that earlier today, a call came into 911 dispatch advising Police, Fire and EMS of a vehicle leaving the roadway and hitting a fence near the intersection of Culver Road and Main Street. Continue reading
Sign Replacement at Henry F. Schricker House Discussed During Knox Planning Commission Meeting
While discussing new business during Tuesday night’s Knox Planning Commission meeting, Planning Administrator Kenny Pfost alerted members of a request he received about the Henry F. Schricker House.
Pfost said a representative asked him about installing a sign in the front yard of the Henry F. Schricker House on Main Street. Under the current sign ordinance, they would be limited to a 2×2 sign because it is in a residential area. Continue reading
New Winamac Police Department On Main Street is Open to the Public
During their Monday night meeting, Winamac Town Council members were notified that renovations to the new Police Station are nearing completion.
Employees from the water, sewage, street and electric departments have assisted with the project for the last several months. Town Manager Brad Zellers previously stated that approximately $70,000 was saved just by utilizing town employees for certain aspects of the project. Continue reading
Mayor of Knox Informs Council Members of Delay with Main Street Light Replacement
Yesterday evening, Mayor Dennis Estok informed Knox City Council members that the installation of the new light bulbs on Main Street has been delayed due to a delivery issue.
Mayor Estok explained that the bulb that was initially installed as an example came without any ballast. Since the existing light fixtures contain their own ballasts there were no issues with that installation. However, the nine additional bulbs that were purchased came with ballasts inside the bulbs.
The mayor said that in order to install those bulbs, the existing ballasts would need to be bypassed during installation which would cost some additional money for labor. If they want to send these bulbs back and get the same ones as the example, they will be charged a restocking fee. Continue reading
Knox City Council Member Suggests Installing Line at Culver Road Stop Light
During the Knox City Council meeting on Tuesday, Council President Don Kring revisited an issue he discussed during the last council meeting. He asked the council to consider looking into painting a dotted line on Culver road, at the stop light located at the intersection of Main St.
Kring said the road there is wide enough where it should allow individuals turning left to be on one side, while people going straight forward can continue driving. An issue arises when people are stopped at the stop light in the center of the road. If the driver at the front of the line is turning left, that means all drivers must wait until they’ve turned before they can continue driving. Continue reading

The group working to designate Culver as an Indiana Main Street Community is looking for new members, and they believe they have the resources to expand.
Culver Main Street Pursuit Aided Through Non-Profit Status
Culver is attempting to improve its downtown area, but they’re asking for more volunteers to help with the process.
The Town is engaged in discussions with representatives from the state’s Indiana Main Street Program. It’s designed to enhance economic development and revitalization of downtown areas in communities across the state.
