Marshall County will find out tomorrow whether it’s been designated a Regional Stellar Community. The announcement was originally expected today, but Culver Town Council President Ginny Bess Munroe announced last week that it’s been pushed back.
Today is the Public Premiere of the Documentary “Lake Maxinkuckee: A History”
Community members have a chance to see a free screening of a new documentary entitled “Lake Maxinkuckee: A History” at 10 a.m. today.
The Antiquarian and Historical Society (AHS) of Culver will present the film at the train station-depot in the town park on Lake Shore Drive. It is about 30 minutes long and will feature original footage shot in the area as well as historical photos and videos. Continue reading

Culver Town Council Approves Grant Fund Appropriations
The Culver Town Council members discussed grant funds that were appropriated during the year at their meeting this week.
Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim commented that the town was fortunate to receive several grants in 2017 that weren’t recognized in the budget. She recommended that the list be available to inform the public of all funds awarded and spent, and on the record for the Department of Local Government Finance.
Culver Community Schools Benefit from the Season of Giving
Culver Community School Board members approved multiple donations when they met earlier this week.
A large donation that was up for board approval was from a local family who provided $10,000 to the band program this year and promised to donate $5,000 annually for the next three years.
Superintendent Karen Shuman stated that much of the donation money from this year will be used to purchase instruments and band chairs but some funds could potentially go toward redesigning the band room as well. Continue reading
Lake Maxinkuckee, Tippecanoe River Projects Receive LARE Grants
Two local waterways will be getting some upgrades, thanks to grant funding from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The latest round of Lake and River Enhancement program grants includes funds for projects benefiting Lake Maxinkuckee and the Tippecanoe River.
Culver Town Council, Stellar Committee Prepare for Site Visit
The finishing touches are complete on the Stellar Strategic Investment Plan for submission to the Stellar Communities Designation Program committee for the Town of Culver.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist said Union Township submitted a letter of support toward the project along with a $40,000 contribution toward the effort. The Marshall County Community Foundation, in coordination with the Vonnegut Fund through the organization, contributed $80,000 toward the bike and pedestrian trail project and Elkay Manufacturing is partnering with the town to provide cabinetry and plumbing fixtures for the proposed Sandhill Farm workforce development housing project.
Lake Maxinkuckee Amphitheater Crowdfunding Effort a Success
The crowdfunding effort for a proposed amphitheater in the Culver Town Park was a success.
A little over $45,000 was gathered in the fundraising campaign. The opportunity was put forward in order to get an Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority matching grant of $30,000 toward the project. The project also has grant support from the Marshall County Community Foundation in the amount of $25,000. The estimated cost of the project is $143,000.
Culver Receives Lake Maxinkuckee Amphitheater Grant
The Culver Park Department is the recipient of a $25,000 grant from the Marshall County Community Foundation.
The grant will be used to build an amphitheater just east of the Culver Beach Lodge.
The outdoor venue will be home for music, art and educational events at the Culver Beach with Lake Maxinkuckee providing a unique setting.

Grants Available Through Marshall County Community Foundation
The Marshall County Community Foundation is accepting applications until Monday, Feb. 2 for the first of two 2015 Community Fund grant rounds.
Grants are awarded from this fund twice a year with money going to nonprofit organizations. The funds support projects or programs in Marshall County focusing on the arts, education, health and human services, recreation and the environment.

Officials at the Marshall County Community Foundation are accepting applications for the 2015 Community Found grant round that supports specific projects or programs throughout Marshall County focusing on the arts, education, health and human services, recreation and the environment.
Funding for the biannual Community Fund grants are made available through earnings on the endowment fund.
Organizations that hold a 501(c)(3) IRS status or a 501(C) IRS status whose request is charitable in nature are encouraged to apply. Requests may be for start-up costs for new programs or the expansion of needed programs or one-time projects or needs. Applications can be found online at www.marshallcountycf.org.
Community members who serve on the Community Foundation’s grants committee will evaluate the proposals and conduct site visits as it is a competitive application process. Grant applications are due by Monday, Feb. 2, 2015 by 4:30 p.m. ET.

Marshall County Community Foundation Offers Special Grant to Celebrate Indiana Bicentennial
The Marshall County Community Foundation has set aside up to $10,000 to assist organizations with programs and projects specifically related to the bicentennial celebration in 2016.
This special grant round will help recognize this milestone in the state’s history and to encourage local participation in the celebration.
Marshall County Community Foundation Receives Lilly Endowment, Inc. Grant
The Marshall County Community Foundation has received a substantial grant for the sixth phase of the Endowment’s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) initiative.
Lilly Endowment, Inc. awarded the community foundation with a $500,000 grant that can be used for endowment building, operating support, college scholarships, special charitable and educational projects and programs, fundraising capacity building, and convening and technical assistance.
Marshall County Community Foundation Distributes $66,210 in Grant Funds
Over $66,200 in grant funds were awarded to 10 organizations in Marshall County Thursday afternoon.
The Marshall County Community Foundation held its second round of 2014 Community Fund grants where non-profit organizations submitted proposals for specific projects. Linda Yoder, Executive Director of the Marshall County Community Foundation explained that the Community Fund is one of the most flexible and responsive of the Foundation’s 318 funds.
John Glenn Student Named Lilly Endowment Community Scholar
A John Glenn High School senior will receive a full tuition scholarship to the University of Notre Dame and an additional $900 annual stipend to help with books and other school equipment. Cole Jacobson of Plymouth is the Marshall County Community Foundation’s 2014 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.
Jacobson has received numerous state and national academic awards and has demonstrated leadership through his involvement with National Honor Society and student council. He also attended Hoosier Boys State, the Hugh O’Brien Leadership Seminar and Purdue Entrepreneur Academy. Jacobson also volunteers with several local non profit organizations, teaches and mentors local youth and visits with senior citizens at a local nursing home. Continue reading
