Marshall County Council Approves Appropriations

  
 
The Marshall County Council approved several appropriations during their meeting Monday morning.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Captain Dan Butt asked the commissioners for approximately $32,000 to be added to the prisoner meals line item in the sheriff’s budget. He asked the council to take some money out of the General Fund and the CAGIT fund to be used to fund this request and the council denied that. They suggested transferring approximately $30,000 into that line item for now which will be done within the sheriff’s budget. Captain Butt told the council that more money will be requested as they are about $82,000 short to fulfill the needs at the jail in terms of meals.

Two Arrested on Narcotics Charges

 
 
Two men were arrested Tuesday after Marshall County police found them to be in possession of narcotics.

The driver, Glenn Linderman, was pulled over near the intersection of Glenn Overmyer Drive and State Road 17 for multiple traffic infractions. Linderman was reportedly found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

Two Wanted Subjects Arrested in Marshall County

 
 
Two wanted men were arrested in Marshall County after a patrolman observed the pair walking on Plum Street near Harrison Street. The officer initiated contact with the subjects, identified as Charles Derek Sanders and Anthony Porter, but Sanders immediately ran. He didn’t get too far, however, as the officer was able to chase him down and, using his taser, immediately stopped the resistance.

Man Arrested After Burglary Incident

 
 
Marshall County police arrested a man after a burglary investigation led to his capture.

The burglary was reported in the Creek Side Trailer Park just south of Lapaz. An extensive investigation was conducted by a Marshall County Sheriff’s patrolman which lasted throughout the day.

Evidence collected led to the arrest of James N. Spiegel on preliminary charges of Burglary Entering a Dwelling, a Class B felony, and Theft, a Class D felony. Spiegel is being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

Three Arrested after Traffic Stop in Marshall County

 
 

A Saturday night traffic stop resulted in the arrest of three people.

Marshall County police received information that Lacy Holzwart, 24, would be in the LaVille area and she was known to have active arrest warrants against her. A traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle in which she was a passenger and during the traffic stop a substance believed to be methamphetamine was found in the vehicle. Holzwart was arrested on two active arrest warrants for Dealing a Narcotic Drug as a Class A and a Class B Felony, plus an arrest warrant for Conspiracy to Deal in a Narcotic Drug, a Class A Felony, and for Possession of Paraphernalia.

Two-Vehicle Accident Injures Culver Man

 
 

A Culver man was injured in a two vehicle accident in Marshall County Wednesday night.

Tracy McDaniel, 45 of Knox, was stopped at a stop sign on 13th Road preparing to travel westbound over State Road 17 onto State Road 8. McDaniel then entered the intersection and struck a pickup driven by Jonathan Schmidt, 40 of Culver.

According to Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputies, Schmidt attempted to avoid a collision but could not. Schmidt was transported to the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth for a rib injury.

Three Injured in Marshall County Crash

 
 

Three people were injured after a two vehicle accident Thursday morning on Lincoln Highway west of Pioneer Drive in Marshall County.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the area where they found 30-year-old Cordelia Baxter trapped in her vehicle. She had to be extricated from her vehicle by the Plymouth Fire Department. Her two-year-old daughter received a laceration to her forehead. They were transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend to receive treatment.

Houin Arrested on Active Warrant and a Felony Charge

Marshall County deputies arrested a man wanted on a warrant out of Fulton County late Tuesday night.

Officers were responding to a call of a suspicious vehicle that was parked in the parking lot area of the Marathon Station located near the intersection of Queen Road and U.S. 30. Deputies identified Seth Houin and he had an active arrest warrant out of Fulton County. As police were searching his vehicle for impound purposes, they found controlled substances in the car.

Area Proms Prompt Law Enforcement to Step up DUI Patrols

 
 
With area schools holding their proms and post-prom events within the next month, local law enforcement departments are stepping up DUI patrols throughout their communities. Police will saturate areas around each prom and post-prom site in an effort to cut down on potential alcohol and drug use, with a zero-tolerance policy toward the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages. In addition, those who provide alcohol to minors will be targeted and jailed.

Police Engage in Hour-Long Standoff with Suicidal Subject

 
 

Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department were involved in a standoff late Wednesday night with a suicidal subject.

The officers were asked to perform a welfare check on a person residing in the 7000 block of 11A Road in Plymouth. The man had reportedly contacted a suicide hotline and expressed a desire to harm himself. When officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Argos and Bourbon Police Departments arrived at the scene, they found a man armed with a gun. The officers were then involved in a standoff with the man.

Three Juveniles Ejected after Single Vehicle Accident in Marshall County

 
 

Three juveniles were injured in an afternoon accident in Marshall County.

Emergency responders and Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at Kenilworth Road and 17th Road just south of Argos. The preliminary investigation suggests that the juveniles were traveling north on Kenilworth Road when their Jeep ran off the road and rolled several times.

Three people were arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop conducted by officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

A traffic stop was conducted at Skylane Drive and Michigan Road at about 11:49 p.m. ET and an investigation found methamphetamine-related material within the vehicle.

Eighteen-year-old Shayna Polley, 29-year-old Kyle Stiles and 29-year-old Justin Felix, all of Plymouth, were arrested on meth-related charges. The three were booked into the Marshall County Jail.

Winamac Man Arrested After Traffic Stop

 
 
A Winamac man was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop in Marshall County. A Marshall County Sheriff’s Department officer stopped a vehicle for a moving violation on State Road 17 near 15th Road.

During the course of the traffic stop, a K9 unit was requested at the scene. K9 Arras indicated the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. When the officer searched the vehicle a substance believed to be methamphetamine was found along with drug paraphernalia.

Dennis Bell of Winamac was arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary charge of Possession of Methamphetamine. His bond was set at $3,000.

Marshall County Community Encouraged to Report Meth, Child Abuse

 
 
Community members in Marshall County are encouraged to notify the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana Department of Child Services of incidents of suspected methamphetamine production and use. Marshall County ranks high in meth abusers and meth labs. There is also a rise in illegal prescription drug use in the area.

Marshall County ranked ninth in the state for most labs seized with 42.

Marshall County Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Possession Arrest

 
 
When Marshall County police pulled over a speeding vehicle on Friday afternoon, a simple traffic stop turned into an arrest when officers stumbled on a cache of marijuana and paraphernalia in the purse of the back seat passenger.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Friday, patrolman Bryant with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of U.S. 31 and 12th Road after he witnessed a vehicle traveling 83 mph in a 60-mph zone. The patrolman then learned that the driver, China Swift, was operating the vehicle on a suspended driver’s license.

Bryant then requested assistance from patrolman Jeff Sharp and Plymouth Police officer John Weir. Weir’s K9 partner, Jax, indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle and a search was conducted, turning up marijuana and paraphernalia in the purse of Minequa Toliver. She was arrested and transported to the Marshall County Jail for the offense.

Four Suspects Have Yet to Appear in Court on Meth Charges

 
 
Four people arrested on an alleged meth-related charges have yet to appear in Marshall Superior Court for their initial hearings.

Jordan Bunton, Kim Frazier, Adam Wagers, and Dianna Watson were arrested on Thursday, March 7 after officers from the Plymouth Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police executed a search warrant at 1008 Plum Street.

Minor Injuries Listed in Marshall County Accident

 
 
Two people were injured in a single vehicle accident in Marshall County Thursday morning.

Karis Olson, 28 of Plymouth, was driving eastbound on 14B Road east of State Road 17 when she lost control of her vehicle as she crested a hill. That action caused her to go off the road where the vehicle struck a tree.

Olson and her three-year-old daughter were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries and complaints of pain.

The investigation was handled by deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

Argos Man Injured After Car Accident

An Argos man was injured in a single vehicle accident on 13th Road west of Olive Trail in Marshall County on Tuesday evening.

The driver, 27-year-old Brandon Hensley, reportedly went off the road at that location and into a tree. Emergency personnel were able to remove Hensley from the vehicle and he was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash and it remains under investigation.
