Marshall County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Multiple Thefts

 
 

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating two thefts reported Tuesday evening by residents in the 16,000 block of 12th road. Dan Miller told deputies two bicycles were taken from his home. Joseph McKee said items were taken from his unlocked vehicle.

A Culver man got an unpleasant surprise Wednesday night when he returned to his home after being away for the winter. He told deputies from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department that someone broke into his pole barn in the 16,000 block of 20th Road and stole several tools and other items. He’s not sure when the crime occurred.

Drug Take Back Event This Saturday in Marshall County

 The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Bremen Police Department are participating in the DEA Drug Take Back program on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET.

You can take your expired, unwanted or unused medicines for disposal to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department at 1400 Pioneer Drive in Plymouth or to the CVS Pharmacy at 1150 W. Plymouth Street in Bremen.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Investigating Burglaries

 
 

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating burglaries in the 3500 block of West Shore Drive in the Lake of the Woods area.

During the evening hours of April 8 to the early morning of April 9, some unknown subject(s) forced entry into five homes and stole flat-screen televisions, a trolling motor, fishing equipment, and various power tools.

Marshall County Patrolmen Receive Sergeant Stripes

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has two new patrol sergeants. Patrolmen Phil Beam and Nick Laffoon were selected through a numerical scoring system by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Merit Board. Beam is a 27-year veteran of the department and lives in the Argos area. Laffoon lives near Plymouth and has been with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department for nine years.

One Arrested after Gun Accidentally Fires in McDonald’s Restaurant in Argos

 
 

A Hope, Indiana man was arrested in Argos on Sunday, March 30 on a charge of Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon and Creating a Substantial Risk of Bodily Injury.

Officers from the Argos Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police were called to the McDonald’s restaurant in Argos in reference to gunfire. Police learned that 21-year-old David J. Boston was in the men’s bathroom when a handgun reportedly accidentally discharged. The bullet from the gun went through the wall of the men’s bathroom and through the wall of the women’s bathroom. The bullet lodged in a beam in the common area of the BP gas station and the restaurant.

Two Injured in Marshall County Accident

 
 

Two people were injured in a three vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in Marshall County.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene in front of Ev and Jayne’s Irish Inn on Michigan Road north of 7B Road in Plymouth at 12:08 p.m. ET. A semi driven by Lavern Sampler of Michigan was traveling south behind a vehicle driven by Summer Scott of Syracuse, Indiana . The semi driver told police that he reportedly did not know the vehicle was turning into the business. The semi rear-ended Scott’s vehicle which was pushed into the path of an SUV driven by Cheryl Kuhn of Plymouth. Kuhn was traveling north on Michigan Road.

Tip Sends Two Culver Women to Jail

 
 

A pair of Culver women face multiple felony charges in Marshall County after police officers from three departments followed up on a tip about a stolen car and a woman with an outstanding warrant. On Friday officers from the Indiana State Police, Culver Police and Marshall County Sheriff’s Department checked 624 Forest Place, Apartment 3A in Culver and found the stolen 2002 Chevrolet Malibu in the parking lot. They spoke to a resident of the apartment, Courtney M. Owens, 25. She gave them permission to search the apartment for the fugitive. Officers found Kayla J. Belue, 24, hiding under a bed, according to information provided by the Indiana State Police. Continue reading

Authorities Investigating Theft from Poor Handmaids Ministry Center

 

 
 

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the theft of electronics reported stolen from a conference room at the Poor Handmaids Ministry Center Wednesday afternoon. The theft occurred during the conference lunch break, sometime between noon and 12:45 p.m. EDT, according to the police report. A first generation iPad, a wallet and a Nikon camera lens were taken. Officials say about 45 people were attending the conference. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department at 574-936-3187.

Incident in Bourbon Leads to Intimidation Arrest

A Bourbon man is jailed on a $20,000 bond after reportedly brandishing a gun at a couple Wednesday night and threatening to kill them. The female victim told officers from the Bourbon Police Department that Chris A. Lemler came into her home on Cedar Road around 9:30 Wednesday night, pointed a handgun at her and her boyfriend and threatened to kill them both. Her boyfriend left, and Lemler reportedly followed him. That’s when the woman reported the incident to the police. Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Bourbon Police Department located Lemler and arrested him without incident. He’s charged with intimidation with a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm and criminal mischief.

 

Theft Report Leads Police to Active Meth Lab

Meth BustA Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy investigating the theft of copper wire from an Argos business Thursday evening reportedly found an active meth lab in a motel room. An employee of Quality Setters Inc. in Argos called the sheriff’s department to report seeing employee Thomas Howell taking quite a bit of copper wire from several buildings on the property. Howell was reportedly staying in room 126 of the Red Rock Inn. Continue reading

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Responds to Accident on U.S. 6

 
 

Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to a semi and passenger car accident on Tuesday night at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Thorn Road.

The investigation into the incident found that the vehicle driven by Brucie Campbell of Walkerton was turning onto U.S. 6 when he partially crossed the center line. This caused him to steer in an attempt to avoid a collision with a semi driven by Donald West of Ohio. The left front of Campbell’s car struck the left side of West’s semi which caused West to react and travel off the south side of U.S. 6 into an electric pole and rolled onto its side.

Campbell was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for non-life threatening injuries. West was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.

Marshall County Detectives Investigate Burglaries in Bremen

 
 

Detectives with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department are investigating a series of burglaries around the Bremen area.

Officers responded to a complaint from a resident living in the 3,000 block of West Shore Drive in Bremen, around the Lake of the Woods, where it was discovered that some unknown person(s) broke into the house and stole electronics and furniture. After further investigation, officers found that several homes had been broken into with items stolen.

Fort Wayne Woman Killed in Marshall County Crash

 
 

A Saturday morning crash on U.S. 30 north of Bourbon claimed the life of a Fort Wayne woman. A vehicle driven by Jarica Tyson, 21, of Ft. Wayne was southbound on Fir Road and pulled into the path of a westbound tractor-trailer, according to deputies from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. Tyson’s vehicle slid under the semi trailer. She had to be cut from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. Toxicology results are pending.

 

Marshall County Sheriff’s Department to Get New Vehicles, Highway Supt. Reports on Safety Meeting

  
 
The Marshall County Commissioners approved a prepayment in the amount of $73,526 for the sheriff’s department.

Sheriff Tom Chamberlin explained that three new vehicles will be delivered on Monday, Jan. 27 and a prepayment is needed in order to complete the transaction. The vehicles will need to be equipped with light bars and other pertinent equipment that needs to be installed in a police cruiser.

Unlicensed Driver His NIPSCO Truck, Injures Driver

 
 
A NIPSCO meter reader was treated at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth after his truck was rear-ended by another vehicle Friday morning in Culver. Ryan N. Misch was westbound on State Road 10 west of State Road 17 when Jonas G. Crispen struck his truck. Crispen told a Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy he had no memory of the accident. The deputy checked Crispen’s driving record and discovered that his Indiana learner’s permit was suspended due to an infraction. Officers measured tire marks at the scene and determined Crispen’s vehicle ran into the NIPSCO truck. A copy of the crash report has been forwarded to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office. The Indiana State Police and Culver Police Department also assisted at the scene.
