One Injured in Marshall County Accident

 
 

One person was flown from the scene of a two vehicle accident U.S. 31 and 7B Road in Marshall County Friday morning.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputies found that a passenger car was southbound on U.S. 31 approaching the intersection with 7B Road in the driving lane. A semi was also southbound but in the passing lane and for some unknown reason, the passenger car turned into the path of the semi. The semi struck the car on the driver’s side.

Culver Man Injured in Accident Outside Plymouth

 
 
Marshall County deputies responded to a single vehicle accident on Sunday where an SUV had gone off a steep embankment on Michigan Road near the south junction with U.S. 31.

Officers found the driver, Timothy Wilson of Culver, lying several feet away from the vehicle. According to the report, he was severely injured and had been in the elements for some time. He was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend in an unknown condition. The accident is still under investigation. Speed and alcohol have not been rules out as a factor.

Marshall County deputies were assisted at the scene by Plymouth firefighters and EMS officials.

Marshall County Man Arrested After Driving While Drunk

 
 
A man was arrested by Marshall County officers after his truck was found off the roadway on 9B Road and Hawthorn Road Thursday evening.

Officers received notice about an unwanted guest at a home on 8C Road and as they were on their way to the scene, the suspect left the home and was reportedly intoxicated. Police arrived in the area only to find the suspect’s vehicle off the roadway and stuck in its position. The alleged suspect, Larry Thompson, 50, who was reportedly driving the vehicle was found hiding in a cornfield.

Thompson was booked into the Marshall County Jail on preliminary charges of Operating While Intoxicated and Public Intoxication. Formal charges are pending with the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police Searching for Suspect in Pole Barn Break In

 
 
Marshall County authorities are investigating a recent break-in at a rural residence. Sometime between 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16 and 7 Monday morning a pole barn in the 11000 block of 11th Road was broken into and several power tools were taken. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department at 574-936-3187.

Intoxicated Driver Arrested After Sliding Into Ditch

 
 
A female driver whose Pontiac Grand Prix slid into a ditch on State Road 17 east of Quicne Road Saturday afternoon faces numerous charges. The Marshall County Police patrolman who responded reportedly found Charlene Yates-Sharp to be extremely intoxicated and notes there was a small child in the vehicle. Yates-Sharp reportedly refused to cooperate with the officers and battered them with physical force and bodily fluids. The incident report indicates she was also combative with nurses at the hospital in Plymouth. She faces charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated – endangering, battery on law enforcement, resisting law enforcement and battery resulting in bodily injury.

Rochester Man Arrested After Traffic Stop

 
 
A Rochester man was arrested after a traffic stop was conducted by Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday night.

The traffic stop occurred at the intersection of Church Street and Michigan Street in Lapaz. After an investigation, 36-year-old Jeffery Sustak was reportedly found to have been operating his vehicle after being convicted as an Habitual Traffic Violator.

Sustak was booked into the Marshall County Jail. His bond was set at $3,000.

Sleeping Restaurant Patron Arrested on Firearm Charge, Theft Charges Pending

A suspect in several Culver area thefts is jailed in Marshall County after apparently picking a bad place to take a nap. An officer from the Marshall County Police Department reportedly found Russell A. Prosser sleeping in a car in the Lapaz McDonald’s parking lot around 4:30 Monday morning. The car matched the description of one that was part of several thefts and a foot chase in Culver on Sunday, according to the arrest report. A rifle and several items believed to have been part of the theft and subsequent chase in Culver were reportedly visible through the car window. Prosser is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to several prior serious felony convictions. He was arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Officers obtained a search warrant for Prosser’s car and reportedly found several items that had apparently been stolen the previous evening in Culver. Additional charges are pending.

Marshall County Police Investigating Campground Break-Ins

 
 
The Marshall County Police Department is seeking the public’s help to solve a series of break-ins that occurred on the eve of Thanksgiving. Officers were called to the Pla-Mor Campground on U.S. 6 in Bremen around 11 a.m. Thursday following the discovery that seven camping trailers had been broken into. The incidents occurred sometime between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday, according to investigators. Witnesses reportedly spotted a beige pickup truck in the area at the time the burglaries are believed to have occurred. Anyone with information is asked to call (574) 936-3187.

Two Arrested on Dealing Marijuana Charges in Marshall County

 
 

Two out of county residents were arrested by Marshall County officers after a traffic stop in the early morning hours on Thursday.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle owned by 54-year-old Leisa Brooks of Indianapolis near the U.S. 31 and U.S. 30 interchange. Officers conducted an investigation and allegedly found approximately 200 grams of marijuana.

Detectives Investigating Burglary at Marshall County Business

 
 
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating a burglary at a business in Lapaz.

The suspect(s) reportedly entered Pat’s in Lapaz sometime between 10 p.m. ET on Monday, Nov. 25 and the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 26. After the suspect(s) forced their way into the business, a Sentry safe was taken. There was some money inside the stolen safe.

Alcohol a Factor in Marshall County Accident

 
 

There were no injuries in a rollover accident in Marshall County in the overnight hours on Sunday, but an investigation found that alcohol played a part in the crash.

Emergency personnel were called to scene where officers found that a car driven by 20-year-old Emmanuel Johnson left the side of the roadway in the 5000 block of Michigan Road, struck two mailboxes and rolled onto its top. The car came to rest in the middle of Michigan Road.

Walkerton Man Hospitalized Following Grenade Accident in Marshall County

  
 

A Walkerton man is hospitalized in Indianapolis following an accident involving a grenade launcher at a private shooting range in Marshall County yesterday. Kevin Patterson, 41, of Walkerton, was firing a starburst grenade round from an AR-15 platform rifle when it detonated in the launch tube under the rifle barrel, according to officials with the DNR. Conservation Officer Corporal Ashlee Jackson describes the round as similar to an aerial firework. Patterson was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of injuries to his arm. Officers from the DNR, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police responded.

 

Two Arrested at Marshall County Truck Stop

 
 

Officers from the Marshall County Police Department arrested two men Tuesday afternoon following an investigation at the Pilot Travel Center in Plymouth. Casey Schoff was picked up on an felony warrant from Starke County, and Gregory Mullins was arrested and charged with driving while suspended-prior.

Both were lodged in the Marshall County Jail.

Marshall County Crash Victim Flown to South Bend

 
 

A Plymouth woman is hospitalized in South Bend following a single-vehicle crash around 6:30 last evening. Marina D. Studt, 59, was southbound on Sycamore Road north of U.S. 6 in a 2007 Ford Focus, lost control of her car and hit a tree. Studt’s car rolled over and landed on its roof, according to the crash report. She was outside the car, conscious and speaking when emergency personnel arrived. Due to the severity of her injuries she was flown to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Marshall County Detectives Investigate Criminal Mischief Incident Near Bremen

 
 

Marshall County detectives are asking for your help in gathering information to identify a possible suspect in a criminal mischief incident.

Detectives learned on Friday that some unknown person(s) used spray paint and caused damage to buildings and property in the Beech Road area, near Bremen. The Borkholder Amish School was spray-painted along with the New Burlington Amish School. A homeowner’s fence was also spray-painted, as well as part of a roadway, traffic signs, and a sign for the Ren-Town Country Store on 3rd Road.

Motorist Airlifted from Scene of Plymouth Crash

 
 

A motorist sheriff’s deputies say pulled across U.S. 30 from Beech Road into the path of an oncoming semi truck Tuesday afternoon was airlifted from the scene of the ensuing three-vehicle crash. The eastbound semi, driven by Doren L. Smith, 59, of Arlington, Ohio, struck the minivan driven by Nazario Oviedo Jr., 42, of Bourbon. Oviedo’s car rolled over in the median, and he was thrown from the vehicle. The semi also went into the median and overturned, losing the contents of its trailer all over the roadway. The rig continued to slide north across the westbound lanes of 30 and struck a westbound car driven by Mindy K. Thompson, 44, of Bremen. Oviedo was arlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Smith and Thompson were both treated at the scene.
