Campaign Signs Not Permitted in State Right-of-Way
Candidates in the May Primary Election are starting to get out in the public to attempt to collect supporters. Officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation urge candidates and campaign assistants to keep campaign signs out of the state’s right-of-way.
Signs are not permitted in intersections, interchanges or rights-of-way that run parallel to highways. Where the right-of-way is not clearly marked, boundaries may be estimated as the fence line, the back of a ditch or behind utility poles.
Early Voting Hours Announced for Pulaski County
Early voting for the May Primary Election starts April 8, and according to Pulaski County Clerk Tasha Foerg, the deadline to register to vote is April 7 for those who wish to vote absentee. Early voting is available from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, April 8 – May 2, but Foerg said there will be Saturday hours as well.
Important May Primary Election Reminders
Absentee voting for the May Primary Election is now available.
Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski informed WKVI News that if you would like to receive an absentee voting form by mail or to cast a ballot by way of the travel board, contact the election office at (574) 772-9160.
May Primary Ends In The Election Of Several New Faces
The polls are closed and the votes have been totaled. The May Primary Election didn’t have the voter turnout that some may have desired, but the voters made their decisions and their ballots have been cast.
In Starke County, Daniel Bridegroom will have the Democratic nomination for Starke County Commissioner in District Three, having received 801 votes over Joseph Woods’ 787. For Starke County Treasurer, Linda L. Belork fell just short of Kasey “Bula” Clark, who earned 842 votes to Belork’s 760. Interestingly enough, the candidate to receive the most votes out of any Starke County race was Kathy Norem, who raked in 1508 votes– regardless of the fact that she was unopposed.
Voters Support Oregon-Davis Referendum
The voters have voiced their opinions, and the support for Oregon-Davis Schools was overwhelming. Six hundred and ninety-nine people voted yes on the Oregon-Davis Referendum, while only 383 people voted no.
May Primary Election to Take Place Tomorrow
The May Primary Election is tomorrow! Polls open at 6:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. prevailing time. We will have Election Night coverage tomorrow night beginning at 5:00 p.m., when results from the Starke, Pulaski and Marshall County elections will be reported.
Kent Danford Files for Starke County Commissioner Seat
Kent Danford is seeking another term as a Starke County Commissioner. Danford, a Republican, is a former commissioner, who lost in a race to Dan Bridegroom in 2008.
Danford was asked why he decided to run for another term.
“There were several things. The main thing was I felt like I still had more things that I had to give back to the people. I’m a taxpayer and I felt like there were some things that could be done yet,” said Danford.
More Races Develop in May Primary Election
Another race has developed for the May Primary in Pulaski County.
Incumbent Republican County Commissioner, Michael Troy “Big Mike” Tiede will face Republican challenger, Larry L. Brady for the District 2 seat.
This is not the only Commissioner race on the ballot. Republican Incumbent Kenneth R. Boswell will have competition with Republican challenger, Terry L. Young in District 1.
Races Developing in May Primary Elections
The deadline to file for the May Spring Primary Election is February 10th. A few races have already developed in Starke and Pulaski Counties.
Democrats Linda Belork and Kasey Clark have filed for Starke County Treasurer. For Starke County Commissioner District 3, a race has developed between Democrats Dan Bridegroom and Joseph Woods.
Clarence Marshall Opposes Jeff Houston for Knox City Clerk-Treasurer Seat in May Primary
We continue with our introduction of the primary candidates to you today. Clarence Marshall is a Democrat candidate for Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Knox. He’s a lifetime resident of Starke County, primarily living in Knox.
We asked him to talk about his background.
“I worked at the Rudd-Shepherd dealership for 36 years and most of those years I was the Service Department Manager,” explained Marshall. “I did leave for a couple of years. I worked at Automatic Music for a few years and also Ed’s Auto Parts.”
Public Testing of Voting Machines Scheduled for Tuesday
The Starke County Election Board is gearing up for its first election with the consolidation of four precincts into one this spring. Center one, two, three and four precincts will all vote in the Knox Community Center.
Tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. CT, the public will be able to test the voting machines. The testing will be done on the first floor of the Courthouse.
Following the testing, the Election Board will meet. The Board will discuss the amendment of a resolution regarding the relocation of the precincts and the number of poll workers.
