North Judson-San Pierre School Board Considers Metal Detector Policies

North Judson-San Pierre School officials were tasked with developing some new policies related to metal detectors.

Over the summer, a state-wide safety initiative allowed schools to apply to receive handheld metal detectors for free. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin said that most Hoosier schools are now faced with incorporating appropriate usage rules for the new devices. Continue reading

When North Judson-San Pierre school board members met Tuesday night, various contracts and salaries were up for approval.

Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin shared that the non-certified salary schedule was updated to include $8 per hour as the starting rate and the number of categories listed was reduced in order to make payroll and HR matters less complicated. Continue reading

North Judson-San Pierre Superintendent Highlights Summer School Opportunities

North Judson-San Pierre Superintendent Annette Zupin outlined some summer school opportunities when school board members met Tuesday night.

One thing she highlighted was NJSP’s Countdown to Kindergarten which is an opportunity for incoming kindergarten students to familiarize themselves with the school experience. Dr. Zupin said it will be held for two weeks with students coming in for four days each week. That will run from July 16th through 19th and July 23rd through the 26th.

Additionally, Zupin mentioned that the Starke County Community Foundation provided a $7,000 donation to help fund the Kindergarten Countdown program, as they’ve done for the past few years. Continue reading

North Judson-San Pierre School Board Elects Board of Finance Officers

The North Judson San-Pierre School Board elected officers to their Board of Finance when they met Tuesday evening.

Members elected Sheila Akers to the President position and Jim Menis was elected to serve as secretary. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin stated that Indiana state law requires the finance board to meet annually after the first of the year and on or before the final day of January. Continue reading

North Judson San Pierre School Board Meets Tonight

The North Judson San Pierre School board will hold the final reading over proposed board polices when they meet at 7 p.m. tonight.

Additionally, members will act on the approval of a lease agreement, the 2018-2019 school calendar and a resolution regarding fund balance transfers. They will also discuss the approval of a memorandum of understanding with organization Jobs for American Graduates.

A board of finance meeting will be held immediately following the adjournment of the regular session. Continue reading

NJSP Superintendent Provides a Peek at Some Preliminary Work Being Done on Lease Rental Bond Projects

North Judson-San Pierre Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin had a plethora of project updates to provide to the school board when they met Tuesday night.

Dr. Zupin informed the board that although they won’t be receiving money from their lease rental bonds until January, plenty of preliminary work has been done so far. She stated that quotes are out for the bathroom partition replacement portion of the project and she anticipates that work to be completed over Christmas Break while students are out of the building. North Judson-San Pierre School Board Meets Tonight

The North Judson San-Pierre School Board will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the school corporation’s administrative office.

Items up for discussion and action include a donation from Farm Bureau, the approval of certified handbook modifications and amendments to the non-certified handbook. The approval of the teachers’ master contract and approval of advertising the tax anticipation warrant are also on the agenda for tonight.

Board members will also receive some information about the Wonder Kind Project when they meet this evening.
