North Judson School Photos Find New Home
The class composite and group photos of North Judson and North Judson-San Pierre High School graduates will soon have a new home. They were recently displaced from Grand Central Station in downtown North Judson after a church took over that space. North Judson-San Pierre Superintendent Lynn Johnson told the school board this week those photos will be on display at the new North Judson Town Hall when it opens later this year. Continue reading

Starke County Council Approves North Judson Library Appropriation
The North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library is set to replace three air conditioning units installed in 1997 with money from their rainy day fund. North Judson-Wayne Township Library Director to Retire
The long-time director at the North Judson-Wayne Township Library, Jane Ellen Felchuk, has decided to retire.
Felchuk said she will be leaving after 38 years at the library.
“It was lots of fun and it was a challenge,” said Felchuk. “We feel the library has grown and I had a great staff so it was easy to do lots of things.”
Starke County Community Foundation Gives Generously to Local Organizations
A number of charitable organizations are on the receiving end of more than $40,000 in grants from the Starke County Community Foundation. The gifts are made possible through the foundation’s endowment fund, which is supported by gifts to the SCCF. The money is invested. Each year some of the interest goes back into the fund to help it grow, while some is given locally in the form of scholarships and grants. Continue reading
Tribute to the Civilian Conservation Corps to Be Held Thursday
A musical tribute to the Civilian Conservation Corps will take place this Thursday, March 20 at the North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library at 2 p.m. CT.
Author Bill Jamerson has produced a dozen documentaries for Michigan Public Television, written stories and recorded many songs on historical subjects. During Thursday’s presentation, he will shares stories he has picked up first hand from former Civilian Conservation Corps boys he has met over the years.
North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library Closed until Monday
The North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library will be closed until Monday, Sept. 30.
Library Director Jane Ellen Felchuk told WKVI that they are having an issue with the card catalog migration project. The automated system will no longer respond and the problem will need to be diagnosed and repaired.
North Judson Library Seeks Public’s Help in Digitizing Yearbooks
In an effort to preserve the memories stored in school yearbooks before they are lost to the sands of time, the North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library is looking to digitize school yearbooks from North Judson-San Pierre High School, but according to Library Director Jane Ellen Felchuk, their collection is not complete. For that reason, the library is now asking for help from the public in order to compose a complete digital collection of the school’s yearbook history.
Two Vans Worth of Goods Donated to the Phoenix House
The North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library recently held a drive for the Phoenix House. They collected consumable items such as paper towels, toilet paper, and laundry detergent.
Roslynn Bejes mobilized the community, the schools, and businesses into supporting the organization. The goods that were collected filled two vans to capacity. In addition, the history, science, and English departments at the high school collected the most items.
Endangered Heritage Exhibit at North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library
A popular exhibit is being presented through April 30th at the North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library. It’s called Endangered Heritage and it is being sponsored by the Starke County Historical Society and is on loan from the Indiana Historical Society.
Literacy Program Coming to Starke County
The SCILL Center Director Jerry Gurrado announced this week that a literacy program is coming to Starke County. Gurrado talked about the program’s focus.
“We had a training session at the library in Knox, and we had four volunteers that were trained,” explained Gurrado. “If anyone is in need of getting training in basic reading or math skills, the courses are taught in a one-on-one situation instead of in a big classroom.”
