Plymouth Airport Manager Pursuing Automated Weather Observation System

 
 
The city of Plymouth may be helping the Plymouth Aviation Board in obtaining an Automated Weather Observation System.

That information was presented to the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning by Plymouth Aviation Board representative Dave Lattimer, who is also the airport manager. He explained that Plymouth needs to have its own system as the weather is its own animal in Marshall County and the installation of the system would be beneficial to pilots in the area.

Plymouth Man Sentenced on Federal Child Pornography Charges

 

 
 

A Plymouth man was sentenced last week in U.S. District Court to seven years in federal prison with five years supervised release after previously pleading guilty to distribution of material involving a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Lawrence Tinsman, 67, was also fined $500 in restitution. Federal court records indicate Tinsman possessed a computer which contained numerous images and videos of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. He downloaded the images through a peer-to-peer file sharing program, according to FBI agents, and also made the images available for download by other individuals seeking child pornography.

 

Attempted Murder Charges Filed In Connection With Marshall County Motel Shooting

ShootingThree people each face attempted murder and other felony charged in Marshall County stemming from a Feb. 22 report of gunshots fired at the Economy Inn on North Michigan Street in Plymouth. Officers reportedly found four .380 shell casings and two bullets lodged in the interior wall of one of the motel rooms. Witnesses reported a dark-colored car sped away from the motel. Officers determined it belongs to Heather Alexander, 21, of Warsaw. Police say Blake Spindler, 19, of Warsaw, and Christopher Tackett, 16, of Tippecanoe, were in the vehicle when the shooting occurred. Continue reading

Plymouth Schools Announce Make Up Days

 
 

Plymouth School Corporation officials have announced plans to make up five remaining days of school. Students in grades 9-12 will have a “virtual day” on Saturday, April 12. Students in all grades at Plymouth will attend classes on Good Friday, April 18. Kindergarten through 8th grade students will be in class on Tuesday, June 3. Students in all grades will attend school on Wednesday, June 4 and Thursday, June 5. The remaining instructional day will be made up by adding half an hour to the instructional day for the remaining 12 Fridays of the school year starting today.

The last day for all students in the Plymouth School Corporation is Thursday, June 5. Teachers in grades K-8 will use Friday, June 6 as a teacher work day. It will be a half work day for teachers in grades 9-12.

Marshall County Commissioners Approve Consolidated Polling Sites

 
 

The Marshall County Commissioners approved the consolidation of several polling sites within the county during their meeting Monday morning.

Clerk Julie Fox and a representative from the Marshall County Election Board appeared before the commissioners with the consolidation proposal. All locations are ADA compliant. Plymouth went though redistricting which warranted change and it was the decision of the board to consolidate Center 1 and 2, Center 3 and 4, Center 5 and 6, and Center 7 and 8 into four separate voting locations. Also, Bourbon, German, North, Polk, Union, Walnut and West Township Precinct were all consolidated.

Traffic Stop Leads to Synthetic Marijuana Arrest

The legal woes are mounting for a man arrested Friday after being pulled over by a Marshall County Police patrolman. The officer who stopped a car driven by Victor Carnegie, Jr. near Michigan and 5A roads knew Carnegie did not have a valid driver’s license, according to a news release. At the time of his arrest, Carnegie was reportedly found to be possession of synthetic and regular marijuana and was charged with felony possession. He was given a $3,000 cash bond for currently being out on parole.

 

Industrial Accident Reported at Del Monte in Plymouth

 
 

Plymouth Police Department officers investigated an industrial accident at Del Monte in Plymouth that happened just after noon ET Friday.

A report of a man trapped between a railroad car and the building was made to police. The man had lost consciousness at the time of the report.

An official at the Plymouth Police Department indicated that not much more information would immediately be released. An industrial accident report is being put together and WKVI News expects to have more information when it is released next week.

Fugitive Arrested After Botched Attempt to Flee Police

A wanted man’s attempt to flee from a Marshall County Police officer on a snowmobile ended with a trip to jail when his off-road vehicle got stuck in a snowbank. A patrolman tried to stop the snowmobile Sunday near the intersection of U.S. 31 and 11th Road, according to a news release. The driver fled down U.S. 31 at a high rate of speed before turning west on 14th Road with officers behind him. He eventually traveled off-road but was unable to clear a large snow bank at a ditch line and got stuck. The driver, identified as Brandon King, then took off on foot. The officer caught up with King and restrained him. That’s when he discovered King was wanted for battery, residential entry and auto theft. He also faces new charges of resisting law enforcement, driving while suspended-prior and reckless driving.

Police Find Meth Lab in Stolen Car, Two Arrested

Meth BustA man and a woman are jailed without bond in Marshall County after a police officer reportedly found an active one-pot meth lab in a stolen vehicle during a traffic stop early Wednesday morning on U.S. 31 north of 1st Road. Officers also obtained a search warrant for a home at 954 U.S. 31, where they reportedly found additional methamphetamine “trash labs”, precursors, drug paraphernalia and just under 100 grams of marijuana. Three Arrested on Meth Charges after Search Warrant Executed

Three people were arrested early Tuesday morning after a search warrant was executed at 725 Loon Court in Plymouth.

An investigation into methamphetamine related activity by the Plymouth Police Department and the Indiana State Police led to the warrant where officers reportedly found two active meth labs in the home along with drug paraphernalia.

Plymouth Tennis Court Committee Slowly Gaining Support

  
 
A grassroots effort in the city of Plymouth to replace the tennis courts in Centennial Park is gaining traction, as the common council this week pledged $750,000 to the project. Michael Hite, park superintendent, told WKVI that the group pushing for the new courts is composed of former tennis players from Plymouth High School who have been investigating the possibility of building new tennis courts to replace the current 40-year-old tennis courts that are located in a floodway.

RoboNinjas Travel to State Championship

 
 

A pair of robot enthusiasts at Plymouth High School are climbing the ladder to become tournament champions in the Vex Robotics competition. Last year, Josh Kuhn and Kennedy Schneiders made it all the way to the world championships in Anaheim, Cali., finishing the competition and ranking 18th in the world.

The duo were tournament champions at a competition held in Zionsville on Nov. 23, ultimately competed against the last remaining undefeated team in Indiana and beat them, winning the tournament to go on to the state championships in early March and the U.S. Open in Nebraska in April.

Driver Arrested After Head-On Collison With Snow Plow

An Akron man faces multiple charges following a head-on collision with a Marshall County snow plow truck Saturday night. It happened just after 10 p.m. on Michigan Road just north of 18C Road, according to the crash report provided by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. A 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer driven by Juan L. Ruiz, 22, was reportedly southbound on Michigan Road, crossed the center line and struck the plow truck driven by Jon A. Bates, 51, of Bourbon. The impact of the crash caused the TrailBlazer to spin counterclockwise before coming to rest facing east in the southbound lane. Ruiz and his front seat passenger were trapped in the SUV and had to be cut from the wreckage by members of the Argos Fire Department. Both were treated at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. Police say alcohol was a factor in the crash. Ruiz faces charges of operating while intoxicated, public intoxication and operation of a motor vehicle having never obtained a license.

 

Unlicensed Driver His NIPSCO Truck, Injures Driver

 
 
A NIPSCO meter reader was treated at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth after his truck was rear-ended by another vehicle Friday morning in Culver. Ryan N. Misch was westbound on State Road 10 west of State Road 17 when Jonas G. Crispen struck his truck. Crispen told a Marshall County Sheriff’s Deputy he had no memory of the accident. The deputy checked Crispen’s driving record and discovered that his Indiana learner’s permit was suspended due to an infraction. Officers measured tire marks at the scene and determined Crispen’s vehicle ran into the NIPSCO truck. A copy of the crash report has been forwarded to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office. The Indiana State Police and Culver Police Department also assisted at the scene.

Project Lead The Way Grant Offered to Marshall County

 
 

Five counties in North Central Indiana may have a great opportunity for students in the near future. Plymouth Schools Superintendent Dan Tyree said a one-to-one grant could come to the county to provide unique technology to students.

“Five counties in North Central Indiana received an offer from Project Lead the Way that they would provide a one-to-one grant to us that would be large enough for every school and every grade to offer Project Lead the Way,” explained Tyree. “If every grade in every school were to do it in that five county area, it would be about a $2.8 million grant.”

Plymouth City Council to Consider Tree and Shrub Ordinance

  
 
The Plymouth City Council will consider an ordinance for adoption during their meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET in the city council chambers, 124 N. Michigan Street in Plymouth.

The ordinance concerns cornering trees and shrubs as recommended by the Urban Forestry and Flower Committee. Several changes to wording has been made for the council’s approval. All provisions are in case a resident wants to plant, prune or remove a tree along a city street.

Plymouth Woman Arrested for Theft

A Plymouth teen was arrested on Wednesday after an investigation into a theft incident.

Plymouth Police Department officers received information about the theft of a purse and its contents from the Country Charm Laundromat in Plymouth on Dec. 15. After reviewing surveillance video, the suspect was identified as 19-year-old Jessica Cavinder.

Cavinder was brought in for questioning on Wednesday and subsequently arrested. She was booked into the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary charge of Theft. Her bond was set at $3,000 cash.
