A dispute over whether the nonprofit Pulaski Health Foundation has to pay property taxes on its Riverwood Commons apartment building appears to have been resolved. Sharon McKinley, the foundation’s executive director, told the Pulaski County Commissioners Monday that the housing development is designed for residents over the age of 55 with low-to-moderate incomes.

A tax increase would still be needed to balance Pulaski County’s Reassessment budget, but it may not have to be as large as originally thought. Assessor Holly VanDerAa discussed several budget concerns during the county council’s public hearing on the 2019 budget Wednesday.
The Pulaski County Council is working to make sure the maintenance department has enough money to pay its part-time employees through the end of the year. Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Johnston reminded council members Monday that they’d cut money for part-time pay when they put together this year’s budget. “You guys, at that time, told me to come back halfway through the year and request enough to cover the rest of the year,” he explained. “It’s for $30,016 for Part-Time Help.”
Now that the Oregon-Davis School referendum tax levy has passed, school officials are evaluating various aspects of how the corporation is run in order to ensure the additional revenue will be spent practically and proficiently.

This is a quick reminder to Starke County residents that real estate taxes are due today, if you are interested in the real estate market, you should check this darien homes for sale.
Tax payment drop off locations include 1st Farmers Bank, Demotte St Bank and 1st Source Bank in Knox, 1st Famers Bank and Bank of Monterey in North Judson or Bank of Monterey in Monterey.
There is also a drop box outside of the Starke County Treasurer’s Office in Knox. Payments can be dropped off with a self-addressed stamped envelope so a receipt can be sent. Individuals are advised to bring their statements with them for faster service.

The deadline to pay the spring installment of property taxes is looming.
The Starke County Treasurer’s office will be open until 4 p.m. CT today to accommodate taxpayers in making that payment on time. The last day that tax bills can be paid without a penalty is Monday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT. Fall installments may also be paid at the same time, if desired.
Payments may be left in the drop box outside the treasurer’s office in Starke County Annex Building in Knox. If the staff receives the payment in the drop box before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, no penalty will be assessed.
Marshall County Treasurer Penny Lukenbill requested the extension of business hours to accommodate the payment of property taxes this spring and fall.
Lukenbill told the commissioners that the auditor delivered the tax duplicate to the treasurer’s office last week. The tax bills are now being created to be mailed out to taxpayers.
Lukenbill requested that the treasurer’s office be open on Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. She also asked that hours be extended on Friday, May 8 and Monday, May 11 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.

The Starke County Treasurer’s office is busy collecting property tax payments this week as the deadline to pay those bills is quickly approaching.
With the Monday, May 12 due date, Treasurer Kasey Clark told WKVI that drop boxes are available at banks in Knox, North Judson and the Bank of Monterey in Monterey. Those facilities will accept payments until their closing time on Monday, May 12. If you are mailing payments, the envelope must be postmarked May 12.
If you see an additional amount on your Starke County property tax bill, you’re not seeing things.
Starke County Treasurer Kasey Clark previously told WKVI that the solid waste bills are included in this year’s tax statement. The solid waste bills had been sent out separately, but this year they will be included in the property tax statement.

Treasurer Debbie VanDeMark requested that hours be extended for the purpose of convenience for taxpayers to pay their property taxes this year. Property taxes will be due on Monday, May 12 and Monday, Nov. 10.
