Updating Pulaski County’s computers will be a much bigger project than initially thought.
Earlier this month, Auditor Laura Wheeler told the county commissioners that 11 to 15 computers were still using Windows 7, which is being discontinued. This week, she said that number is actually closer to 45, and she still hadn’t heard from all of the departments.

The Pulaski County Council has approved funding arrangements for the change in the county’s workers’ compensation coverage. The county was dropped by the Indiana Public Employers’ Plan, leading the county commissioners to choose a policy using the state pool last month.

Now that the Pulaski County Commissioners have recommended a path forward for courthouse renovations, discussions about how to fund it will begin in the county council and the Indiana General Assembly. State Representative Doug Gutwein has introduced legislation that would allow a special income tax that’s currently in place to pay for the Justice Center to be extended until 2036 to fund courthouse renovations.

The Pulaski County Commissioners have taken action to get some property back on the tax rolls. Back in September, William McBee, a resident of the Monterey Resorts area, expressed interest in buying four neighboring lots that had come under the county’s ownership. Earlier this month, the commissioners voted to finalize the sale, for a price of $25 per parcel.

The Pulaski County Council has given its permission to pay the final bills from the courthouse elevator replacement, more than a year after the work was completed. The county council voted five-to-one last week to finalize a series of additional appropriations. That included almost $57,000 for the elevator work.

Funding arrangements for the Winamac ambulance garage expansion were discussed during last week’s Pulaski County Council meeting. EMS Director Brandon DeLorenzo explained that the contractor that won the bid can’t start until next year, meaning that most of the cost can’t come out of this year’s budget.

Back in August, the county commissioners voted to move forward with a policy from EMC Insurance, at a cost of just over $4,100 a year. But during last week’s meeting, insurance agent Gene Timm explained that the company would not provide standalone coverage.
