Auditor Laura Wheeler told council members Monday that while they had agreed to cover the cost, they had never actually decided which fund that money would come out of.

The Pulaski County Council is making funding arrangements to keep airport upgrades on track. Aviation Board President Jim McDaniel says Arens Field is in the process of getting more than $200,000 worth of improvements, “A new parking lot out front, more security across the fuel farm, working closer towards, someday, they’re going to request that we fence the whole place, but there’ll be a gate.”

Making sure the Pulaski County Highway Department will be able to update its asset management plan and continue to qualify for Community Crossings grants was the goal of a lengthy conversation during Monday’s county council meeting. The highway department’s $2,500 budget for asset management services was apparently cut out of this year’s budget. To resolve the issue, Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff asked council members to transfer $10,000 into the line item from his department’s salt budget.

It was another busy weekend for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the county council Monday the department had several drug arrests. “One of them was a guy going down [State Road] 39 106 miles an hour,” he explained. “They get him stopped, run the dog around him, and he’s got almost $5,000 cash, a bunch of marijuana, and some needles.”

The Pulaski County Council is expected to make some clarifications on the county’s pay structure tonight. Pulaski County has a salary matrix that’s designed to give full-time employees a set schedule for pay raises, but department heads have asked for more clarification about how the system is supposed to work. Pay levels for part-time employees are governed separately, but different department heads say they were each told different things about what they’re supposed to pay people.

Pulaski County Child Abuse Prevention Event Planned for Thursday
Pulaski County officials are holding an event this week to raise awareness of child abuse. “It is Thursday, April 19 at 12:30 at the Pulaski County Courthouse Lawn,” County Commissioner Kenny Becker announced during last week’s joint county council and commissioners meeting. “There’ll be a face painter, music, activities, community speakers at the event.” He added that the goal of the event is to offer residents resources, educational ideas, and actions they can take to prevent child abuse.
Pulaski County to Get Less Than Previously Expected for Wrecked Sheriff’s Department Pickup Truck
Pulaski County’s insurance payout for a wrecked police vehicle is a bit less than previously expected. Sheriff Jeff Richwine previously announced that the county would get over $20,000 for a 2012 pickup truck that was totaled in an accident several months ago. Last week, he told the county council that the check will only end up being for about $17,000.

Pulaski County Council Approves Funding Request for Hospital MRI Building
Pulaski Memorial Hospital will get almost $800,000 from the county’s Cumulative Building Fund for its new MRI building. The funding request was approved by the county council Monday, after the county commissioners approved it last week. It calls for the money to be paid in 17 installments between now and 2027.

Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Johnston told the county council Monday the project is going well. “All the material has been ordered,” he said. “The demolition is going to actually begin the end of this month, the last week of this month.”
