The Pulaski County Human Services Food Pantry is closed until Monday, Dec. 15 in order to prepare for the holiday season. Staff and volunteers are getting ready for the annual toy store and food basket distribution this weekend. Regular food pantry hours are 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. or by appointment for people with emergencies or who are working, in school or training. Those hours will resume on Monday.
Winamac teenager Clark Gudas’ dream of building a stake park as an Eagle Scout project has come true. The community is invited to celebrate that accomplishment today at the grand opening of the Winamac Skatepark. It’s located in Rinehart Park next to the Pulaski County Family YMCA. Gudas oversaw all aspects of design, fundraising and construction.
“After years and years of work and not being sure if this was actually going to come together, being able to actually see the concrete being poured and see the final product – It’s just amazing to see that I did this,” Gudas said. He’s completed the necessary paperwork for his Eagle Scout project and is waiting for his board of review.
The Pulaski County Human Services Food Pantry is in need of supplies to help many families in need.
The food pantry staff helped 135 families totaling 404 people in the month of May. That’s 16,968 pounds of food. According to Pulaski County Human Services officials, the commodities from the Lafayette Food Bank are minimal so community support is key.
The Pulaski County Human Services Food Pantry is doing fairly well after the Christmas holiday.
Officials there say that they continue to get donations and the community has been very generous. Several monetary donations have been given to the pantry for essential needs.
