Culver Schools to Receive Share of Income Tax Fund Distribution
The Culver Community Schools Corporation will boost some of its cash reserves, thanks to a special distribution of funds from the state. IRS Reminds Retirees of Upcoming Retirement Plan Distribution Deadline
This Friday is the deadline for certain retirees to start withdrawing money out of their retirement accounts. Specifically, those who reached the age of 70½ during 2015 who have a traditional IRA or participate in many workplace retirement plans must start receiving required minimum distributions by Friday, April 1. Culver Academies Searching For Head of Schools
Culver Academies will be starting a search for the new Head of Schools.
It was recently announced that John Buxton and his wife Pam plan to retire in June of 2016. Buxton has been with the schools for the past 17 years. Culver Academies is a boarding and college preparatory school in Marshall County.
Community Services Director To Retire
The long-time director of a local non-profit has decided to retire.
Joan Haugh has been with Community Services of Starke County for the past 40 years. She recently informed the organization’s board of directors that she will leave her duties at the end of July.

Ellen Dodge Announces Retirement as Library Director
After five and a half years as director of the Starke County Public Library, Ellen Dodge has announced her resignation. Effective Aug. 31, Dodge’s retirement marks the end of a dedicated 17 years of service to the library.
“When I first came I selected fiction materials and helped people make choices for their recreational reading. I’ve been a reference librarian and was head of the reference department for several years,” said Dodge.
Originally born in Chicago, Dodge spent the majority of her life growing up in Laporte County. She later earned her Bachelor’s in Biology and a Master’s in Library Science, and worked in hospital laboratories and research labs before getting a job at the library.
Starke County Auditor Michaelene Houston Leaves Auditor’s Office after 22 Years
It is the end of an era in the Starke County Auditor’s office. Michaelene Houston spent 22 years either as a Deputy Auditor, or Auditor herself. She served as Deputy Auditor under Pam Fletcher and Mike Haugh.
“November 30th, 1984, I started as Deputy Auditor for Pam Fletcher and I worked for her for two years and one month and then Mike Haugh became Auditor and I worked for him for four years,” explained Michaelene Houston. “I then ran for the office and I was Auditor for two terms. I couldn’t run for a third consecutive term so I ran for Commissioner and I was Commissioner for four years. Then I ran for Auditor again and now I’m on my second and final term as Auditor.”
