The Culver Community Schools Corporation is reporting some positive enrollment figures. Superintendent Karen Shuman shared the results of last Friday’s official count during Monday’s school board meeting. “We are up 24 students [over] last year, so we’re at 774, where last year, we were at 750,” she said. “So that is good.”
The Knox Community School Corporation has reason to be hopeful about its future enrollment numbers. Elementary School Principal Glenn Barnes says about 96 children attended the school’s recent kindergarten roundup. He told the school board last week that number’s a little higher than it’s been in past years.
Residents of the Oregon-Davis school district are calling on school officials to explore ways to cut costs before asking voters for a property tax increase. Some of those in attendance asked if the corporation’s 555 students really justified two principals, as well as all of the corporation’s support staff.
As the Oregon-Davis School Board considers the school corporation’s financial future, one challenge school officials will have to address is declining enrollment. Since the 2008-2009 school year, enrollment has dropped from 713.5 students down to 555. Based on kindergarten enrollment trends, that number’s expected to drop down to 511 over the next five years.

North Judson-San Pierre administrators continue to gather information about why students are leaving the corporation. N.J.-S.P.’s official enrollment is down 31 students from last fall, although Superintendent Annette Zupin says three students who had transferred to other schools have returned since the count was taken last month.
