Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department Honors Fallen Heroes
As they have for the past eight years, members of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department hosted the annual memorial service on May 27 in front of the Sheriff’s Department in Winamac.
This ceremony is held to honor the memory of three fallen officers from the Pulaski County police force. The department recognized Sheriff Charles Henry Oglesby, Sheriff Milo “Mike” Lewis and Deputy Sheriff Shadron Kiley “Shad” Bassett who were all tragically lost in the line of duty. Family members received honorary license plates from the station.
Pulaski County Sheriff’s Memorial Set for May 27
The employees of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department will be remembering three fallen comrades in a Sheriff’s Memorial service on Tuesday, May 27 at noon ET at the Sheriff’s Department.
Remembered will be Sheriff Charles Henry Oglesby who was shot and killed on October 5th, 1907 while attempting to arrest three men stealing a ride on a Pennsylvania Railroad freight train. The men were a gang of safecrackers who just burglarized the Marsh store in Burnettsville. The suspects were captured in the Winamac area.
Memorial Service at Pulaski County Justice Center Today
A memorial service is planned today at the Pulaski County Justice Center for the Pulaski County officers who died in the line of duty.
Pulaski County Sheriff Michael Gayer and the entire staff will be in front of the Justice Center where the three officers will be memorialized. Sheriff Charles Henry Oglesby was shot and killed on Oct. 5, 1907; Sheriff Milo “Mike” Lewis was shot and killed on Oct. 11, 1967 and Deputy Sheriff Shadron Kiley “Shad” Bassett was killed in an automobile crash while responding to a call on Oct. 7, 2005.
Everyone is invited to the service which is scheduled at noon ET. A dinner for the families of the honored officers will be provided.
