When we recently talked with Starke County Clerk, Evelyn Skronski, about the Primary Election campaign signs placed outside the Knox city limits, where the only Primary Election in Starke County will be held next Tuesday, she shared her insight as to the candidate’s reasoning.
Voters Question Eligibility in the Knox City Primary Election
Some residents around the edges of Knox seem to be confused about if they are eligible to vote in the 2011 City Election, since campaign posters are appearing all over the County, well beyond the city limits. County Clerk, Evelyn Skronski, says potential voters should have been notified by mail.
“We sent out 2,855 letters to all the registered voters in Centers 1, 2, 3, and 4,” said Skronski. “Some of them came back to us as ‘unknown’ so some of the voters may not have gotten a notice. Those that we could relocate, we sent out letters. There are jagged precinct lines throughout these four precincts so the best thing to do is call the Clerk’s Office at 772-9160 and see what precinct you are in.”
Voters in all 4 Knox precincts will cast their primary ballots in the downtown Knox Community Center.
Absentee Voting is Available to Knox Residents Throughout this Week
Starke County Clerk Evelyn Skronski reminds residents of the City of Knox that only a few more days remain to vote an absentee ballot in the Primary Election.
“Monday, April 25th, we will be open from 8:00 a.m. to Noon and from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and that will be daily, Monday through Saturday,” said Skronski. “Evening hours will be on April 28th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. We will conclude our absentee early voting on May 2nd and you may vote from 8:00 a.m. until Noon.”
Center Township Precincts in Knox to Consolidate for 2011 Primary Election
Starke County will go from 21 to 19 precincts in the spring Primary Election.
“We’re consolidating Center one, two, three, and four from their current locations to the Community Center,” said Starke County Clerk, Evelyn Skronski. “Hopefully, this is going to make it cost effective and voter comfortable.”
Starke County Election Board Discusses Voting Machines at Recent Meeting
Stiff buttons could be a problem in the spring.
The Starke County Election Board met last week and one of the topics of conversation was whether to have an inspection of the voting machines. Clerk, Evelyn Skronski, said among the problems noticed on some of the machines was that the buttons to cast votes were sticking. Also, it’s felt that some of the connections are bent. In the end, it was decided to being the MicroVote company in to give certain machines a thorough cleaning. If any of the machines do not pass, they will have to be replaced or repaired. The cost for going over the machines is $50.00 apiece.
