Hamlet Looking at Town Park Upgrades for Stellar Project List

The Hamlet Park Board’s wish list of projects could become a reality, if the Constellation of Starke region is designated a Stellar Community. During an update to the town council Tuesday, Ron Gifford with the Starke County Economic Development Foundation said that communities around the county are working with planning consultant DLZ to come up with projects that might be eligible for Stellar funding.

U.S. 30 Freeway Project Failing to Generate Support from INDOT

Interest in upgrading U.S. 30 to freeway standards doesn’t appear to be as high as previously thought, and that’s drawing frustration from Hamlet officials. Ron Gifford with the Starke County Economic Development Foundation told the town council Wednesday that the Indiana Department of Transportation is looking at other projects now and doesn’t appear interested in U.S. 30.

Uncertainty with U.S. 30 Plans Draws Concerns from Hamlet Council President

Uncertainty about the future of U.S. 30 is making it hard for Hamlet to attract businesses, according to Town Council President Dave Kesvormas. During last week’s meeting, he said that local officials have been told that INDOT wants to upgrade U.S. 30 to freeway standards, but now, they’re hearing proposals for a J-turn intersection at State Road 39.

Group of Starke County Justice Center Trustees to Begin Welding Program Today

Starting today, a handful of Starke County Justice Center trustees will be attending 12 weeks of commercial welding training, with the opportunity to receive certification.

Program officials who were interviewed about this opportunity indicated that the training is being offered to not only give offenders a chance to prove their commitment to recovery and rehabilitation, but to also benefit the community.

Starke Stellar Team Asks Community Members to Take Survey, As Letter of Intent Deadline Nears

As Starke County officials decide whether to apply for a Stellar Community designation this year, local residents are being asked to fill out a survey. It’s a way to demonstrate support from local communities to the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, according to Ron Gifford with the Starke County Economic Development Foundation.
