Days after ground was broken on the Mammoth Solar Project, the Starke County Commissioners will consider zoning permission for some affected parcels south of Bass Lake. Earlier this month, the commissioners agreed to rezone the Rentka property west of U.S. 35 to Agriculture, but tabled a decision on the nearby Redlin property. Among other things, Agricultural zoning allows for the installation of solar panels.

Starke County Emergency Medical Services may soon be asking for pay raises. EMS Director Travis Clary told the county commissioners last week that Starke County has one of the lowest-paying EMS services in the area, and some staff members are leaving for better pay.

Local EMS departments are working to update their equipment. Pulaski County EMS Director Brandon DeLorenzo told the county commissioners last week that he’s working on getting a grant for a new stretcher. “Those stretchers are not cheap,” he said. “The last one we got was a power stretcher, and those are about $18,000.”

A small airplane crash in Starke County Sunday evening left one person injured. The Starke County Sheriff’s Office says it happened just before 7:30 p.m. near U.S. 35 and County Road 800 South. When emergency crews arrived, they reportedly found a crop dusting plane in a field.
