In-Person Absentee Voting Continues Saturday in Starke County
Absentee voting continues Saturday in Starke County.
The Starke County Election Board, along with the County Clerk’s office, have set in-person absentee voting from 8:00 a.m. until Noon on Saturday. Absentee voting will continue on Monday morning during those same hours.

State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson says it’s also a good time to change batteries in smoke alarms and remove dust from the front of the devices. The Senator has been working for the past two years to find solutions: not only to Indiana’s addiction problems, but drug problems across the nation. Appearing via conference call with U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, Donnelly says training medical doctors with better prescribing practices could go a long way.

Rock-a-Thon Benefit Scheduled for Kid’s Closet Ministry
Members of Little Dove Baptist Church in Toto are raising money and donations for a county-wide children’s ministry this weekend. They’re hosting a rock-a-thon tomorrow from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Pastor Alvin Allen says all sponsored participants will keep their chairs in motion, with help from subs if they need to take a break, for eight hours.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is urging political candidates and their supporters to prevent road signs from blocking traffic visibility. According to INDOT, intersections, interchanges, and right-of-ways that run along a road should not be utilized for political yard signs.
Knox Business Owners Frustrated With Neighbors
A couple who recently opened a business in downtown Knox is extremely frustrated with their neighbors. Frank and Tammy Guzman own Guzman’s Jewelry at 5 North Main Street, which is next door to O’s Tap. Tammy Guzman has spoken to the Knox City Council on several occasions about problems with bar patrons urinating on their front and back doors, breaking beer bottles on the sidewalk and in the alley and using drugs behind the businesses. They’ve put a locked chain link fence up behind the back door to their store but say needles, used condoms and shards of broken glass are still winding up on their property. Continue reading

Hamlet Officials Move Forward With Demolition Plans
The Hamlet Town Board last night took action to accept a proposal from JD Excavating to raze two abandoned houses in the town. The work will begin pending the building inspector’s final approval.
Discussion followed a resident’s inquiry about providing Hamlet residents access to a Bank ATM near the Town Hall. An alternative plan also under discussion was for the town itself to purchase am automatic teller machine to provide the service. Continue reading
