Two State Roads Reopen after Flooding Event
Two state roads are back open now that flood waters have receded.
The Indiana Department of Transportation opened State Road 39 between State Road 10 and U.S. 30 and State Road 8 between U.S. 35 and State Road 39. The roads were closed when high water from historic flooding intruded on the roadways in late February. Locations of Pulaski County Community Crossings Projects Remain Unclear
Pulaski County is expected to complete over $1 million in road projects with money from the second round of Community Crossings grants. But Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff still hasn’t revealed which roads will be getting an upgrade. He says the work won’t be able to start until the spring, and he wants to wait until closer to that time before releasing details.
Preliminary Investigation Results of Three Vehicle Accident on State Road 8 Released
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 22nd, the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, Knox City Police, Starke County EMS, Knox Fire Department and Washington Township Fire Department responded to a traffic accident on State Road 8 near 600 East.
According to the police report, the accident involved three vehicles. The preliminary investigation indicates that a male juvenile was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am traveling east on State Road 8 when he veered across the center line, striking a full-size handicap Ford van, occupied by a male and female traveling west on SR 8. Railroad Crossing Repairs Cause Road Closure
INDOT recently began some rail road crossing repairs that will cause a closure impacting commuters and residents of Starke County.
Norfolk Southern Railroad Company is renewing and repairing a railroad crossing near Knox, causing the closure of State Road 8 between County Road N. 100 E. and County Road N. 200 E.
This closure will last from Monday, September 18th until Friday, September 29th. Norfolk will only be closing this section of State road 8 for railroad crossing rehabilitation. Continue reading
Knox Streets Closed for Railroad Crossing Maintenance
A few Knox streets are closed for railroad crossing maintenance. City officials say the crossings at Shield Street, Bower Street, Portland Street, and 300 East should reopen by the end of the week.
Chip Sealing to Close State Road 39
The Indiana Department of Transportation is chip sealing another section of highway in Starke County. Starting today, State Road 39 will be closed between State Road 10 and State Road 8. Work is due to wrap up Friday, weather permitting.

Highway Projects Force Oversize Loads to Travel Through Knox
More oversize loads are being routed through Knox as a result of road construction projects in LaPorte County. A superload is classified as a vehicle larger than 16 feet wide, 110 feet long, 15 feet tall or weighing more than 120,000 pounds, according to INDOT officials.
