Many area children continue to attend school outside of their own public school district. The Indiana Department of Education released its fall transfer report Wednesday. The Oregon-Davis School Corporation continues to see a large chunk of its district’s population going to other schools, with more than 43 percent of the state-funded students who live there attending class someplace else.

The West Central School Board has agreed to push back the cutoff date for kindergarten enrollment. Children may now enroll in kindergarten if they turn five before September 1, according to the draft meeting minutes. Superintendent Dan Zylstra says that was pushed back from August 1, based on a provision in state law.

The Oregon-Davis School Board has approved instructional fees for the upcoming school year. Superintendent Don Harman says there are only a few minor changes, due to the adoption of new science textbooks.

North Judson-San Pierre administrators continue to gather information about why students are leaving the corporation. N.J.-S.P.’s official enrollment is down 31 students from last fall, although Superintendent Annette Zupin says three students who had transferred to other schools have returned since the count was taken last month. Oregon-Davis Accepting Transfer Students
The Oregon-Davis School Corporation is accepting transfer student applications for the 2016-17 school year. The passage of Indiana’s expanded voucher program a few years ago cleared the way for students to attend public schools outside of their home district. State tuition money is paid to the corporation where the child is enrolled on the two student count days. O-D Interim Superintendent Jim Dermody says enrollment will be governed per Indiana State Student Transfer guidelines. Continue reading
