A water main break had southbound U.S. 35 closed on the south side of Winamac Tuesday afternoon. INDOT said the southbound lanes were closed between Ontario Street and County Road 100 South.

The U.S. 35 bridge in Downtown LaPorte will be closed for much of the day tomorrow, March 27, as NIPSCO upgrades its lines above the highway. INDOT says U.S. 35 will be closed between State Road 2 and Washington Street from about 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The right northbound lane is also expected to be closed on Monday, March 29 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Drivers on U.S. 35 in LaPorte County Saturday afternoon found themselves sharing the highway with a herd of cattle. The Holstein calves took off from their home near U.S. 35 and County Road 500 South, according to a LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. An off-duty deputy reportedly spotted the herd running southbound in the northbound lanes. When the calves got to U.S. 6, they continued eastbound.

Motorists driving through Downtown LaPorte may encounter some lane closures Wednesday. INDOT says the left turn lanes from northbound U.S. 35 to westbound State Road 2 and from westbound State Road 2 to southbound U.S. 35 will be closed between 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Drivers will still be able to turn left from the next lane over, but INDOT says motorists should expect delays.

A number of road projects may have motorists adjusting their routes in the coming weeks. In LaPorte County, U.S. 6 will be closed between U.S. 35 and State Road 39 starting Monday until mid-August. INDOT says one lane in each direction will remain open for local traffic only. Through traffic is asked to use U.S. 35, U.S. 30, and State Road 39 as a detour.

Multiple people were injured and several Knox residents lost power, following a pair of vehicle crashes Saturday evening. Starke County dispatchers say one person was taken to the hospital in a single-vehicle crash on State Road 8 that resulted in a power outage. NIPSCO reported that more than 200 customers were still without power hours later.
