A Grovertown man was sentenced to serve 17 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections during a hearing in Starke Circuit Court yesterday.
Ryan Reyes, 19, pleaded guilty in a plea agreement with the state to two counts of child molesting as a Class B felony in two separate cases and criminal mischief as a Class D felony in a separate case.
Reyes admitted to Judge Kim Hall that on Apr. 24 of this year he had sexual intercourse with two 13-year-old females in Wythogan Park in Knox in two incidents in the evening hours. Reyes also confirmed that in June of this year, he hit and kicked fellow inmate Adam Obomsawin in the Starke County Jail that resulted in an injury. Obomsawin suffered a broken nose in the attack. Obomsawin is currently serving a sentence in the Indiana Department of Corrections.
Judge Hall accepted the plea agreement which he said is appropriate for the seriousness of the incidents. Reyes was sentenced to eight years in the Indiana Department of Corrections on both charges of child molesting with no part of the sentences suspended. The plea agreement also called for a 12 month sentence in the Indiana Department of Corrections with no part of the sentence suspended. Those sentences will run consecutively to each other for a total of 17 years.
After he completes half of his sentence, he may petition the court for a modification of his sentence. Once he serves his time, he will be required to register as a sex offender. He is to have no contact with the victims while executing his sentence. He was given 212 days credit for time already served.
