Knox officials are prepared to enforce truck routes in an effort to keep traffic to and from the industrial park off of city streets. Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council last night the enforcement will start March 1st so manufacturers have time to let their suppliers know.
The main goal is to get truck traffic off Culver Road. Estok says tractor trailers pose safety concerns in the school zones. Trucks will not be allowed on Washington or Lake Streets, either. Truck route signs will be posted to alert drivers.
Estok is also working with Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Charlie Weaver to find a designated tractor-trailer parking area for over-the-road drivers who live within the city limits. He notes city streets are not designed to accommodate the weight of semis.
