Brown Circle Water Lines Provide Better Fire Protection

The water line project on Brown Circle in Knox is complete. The water is on and active.

Three new fire hydrants were installed in the neighborhood and now the area has better fire protection. The fire departments will now be able to use those fire hydrants when needed for more adequate coverage.

Twenty-one residences will be connected to the water line this fall. When this is complete crews will be able to shut off the grid to the 75-year-old galvanized lines that were an inch to four inches in size and not in the utility right-of-way. Many of those lines ran under the homes in the Brown Circle area.

While crews were replacing these lines, numerous leaks were found in the old pipes.

The Knox Wastewater Department assisted the Knox Water Department in repairing broken sewer lines and the Street Department for their assistance with equipment. JD Excavating also assisted in the project.
