Blackburn Case set for Status Hearing

Edward Blackburn

Edward Blackburn will return to court for a status update in October.

Blackburn, 31, is facing a murder charge in Starke County. He is accused of killing Cord Colgrove in an incident in rural North Judson in March. Formal charges were filed on March 6 and he has been incarcerated in the Starke County Justice Center since his arrest.

Blackburn recently hired Caroline Briggs as a defense attorney. Briggs, from Briggs Law Office in Lafayette, asked the prosecution for more discovery items in order to move forward in the case. There are specific items such as computer and telephone records that she will need to analyze as well as the other documents given to her by his previous court-appointed attorney, Blair Todd. Todd withdrew from the case after Blackburn retained Briggs.

Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall set a status hearing for the case on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. Judge Hall also set a date of Nov. 30 for a deadline for everyone to have all of the proper paperwork in place.
