Winamac Park Board Votes to Spend Up to $12,600 for Tree Removal

The Winamac Park Board is looking to remove as many dead trees from the Town Park as possible, before the end of the year. Board members voted Thursday to hire Practical Tree Service to cut down 32 trees for a cost of $5,600.

But Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo said that’s just a fraction of the trees that need to be removed. With nearly $14,000 left in this year’s tree maintenance budget, the park board decided to see if more work could be done.

In the end, board members authorized DeLorenzo to have the contractor remove additional trees for a cost not to exceed $7,000 beyond the original quote. Town Attorney Justin Schramm said additional quotes would not be needed, since the work could be classified as maintenance, rather than a public works project.

DeLorenzo pointed out that some of the trees will be a bit of a challenge, since they’re hanging out over the river or are difficult to reach with removal equipment.
