Hamlet Officials Report Little Progress in Starke Street Railroad Crossing Discussions

The condition of the Starke Street railroad crossing continues to draw concerns from the Hamlet Town Council. Over the past few months, the Starke County Economic Development Foundation has tried to help facilitate discussions between the town and the Chicago, Fort Wayne & Eastern Railroad.

But so far, Executive Director Charlie Weaver’s efforts have resulted in little progress, according to Council President Dave Kesvormas. “Charlie did say he was going to get me a phone number,” Kesvormas said during Wednesday’s council meeting. “He did get me a phone number, but it isn’t anybody that works at the C.F.&E. or whatever railroad. It was some lady.”

Kesvormas has previously said that deteriorating railroad ties have led to unsafe driving conditions. At the latest, council members want the railroad to make permanent repairs to the crossing when the northern section of Starke Street is redone in March.
