Francesville Officials to Research Wind Turbines, Plan Commission Formation

The Francesville Town Council members will be researching more information on wind turbines and the formation of a Francesville Plan Commission.

According to Clerk-Treasurer Linda Bennett, it was recommended that the town form a plan commission to look specifically at wording into the regulation of wind turbines in the zoning areas. She mentioned that the Federal Aviation Administration is reportedly reviewing several filings for 16 wind turbines in the Francesville zoning area and 18 in the Pulaski County zoning jurisdiction, but no permits for construction have come through her office.

Several citizens that own farmland in the zoning area attended Monday night’s meeting to voice their concerns about the wind turbines. The majority opposes their construction.

Bennett said the town council members are expected to gather more information on the issue from Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer and Winamac Town Attorney Justin Schramm during their next meeting on April 2. The town council may then also discuss assembling a plan commission that would create wording regulating wind turbines in the Francesville zoning area, patterned after the county’s zoning laws. The meeting on Monday, April 2 will begin at 6:30 p.m. ET at the Francesville Town Hall.
