Winamac Town Council Considers Moving Fireworks Display Due to Debris Concerns

The location for the Town of Winamac’s fireworks display was discussed during Monday night’s town council meeting. Town Manager Brad Zellers explained that last year when the event was held at the school, there was an issue with the wind blowing debris onto cars at a neighboring dealership.

Town Council President Tom Murray added that since the school corporation will be conducting paving work this summer, they should have an alternate site planned anyway. He suggested moving the event back over to the big baseball diamond at the town park.

Members concurred that the display should be held at the park this year. However, Councilman Dan Vanaman did ask if there would be any conflicts with using the diamond and Zellers replied that he’ll have to coordinate with the park manager to ensure that the space will be free. He added that he’ll need to contact the fireworks distributor as well since they will have to switch the address for their insurance documentation.

Anyone interested in making a donation for the fireworks show can bring their contribution to the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office at 120 W. Main Street.
