Starke County Commissioners Make Appointments to the Koontz Lake Conservancy District

The Starke County Commissioners made their appointments to the newly-formed Koontz Lake Conservancy District.

Four appointments were made. Gene Fleming will serve in the Directorship Area II. The term expires in February 2021. This position requires that the property owner owns land immediately adjacent to Koontz Lake. The Directorship Area III appointee is Greg Mundt whose term expires in February 2020. He owns property in Starke County that isn’t immediately adjacent to Koontz Lake. The At-Large Directorship I position goes to Steve Troike and the At-Large Directorship II position goes to Marty Wolfe. The At-large positions require that a property owner owns land within the Starke County portion of the Koontz Lake Conservancy District. These two terms expire in February of 2022.

Marshall County had one appointment to this board. The Marshall County Commissioners approved the appointment of Steve Giese. His term will be up in 2019 when this appointed board will hold an election for the seat.

The purpose of the Koontz Lake Conservancy District is to improve the water quality into the lake. Chemicals, fertilizers and other unwanted substances are getting into the lake by the means of drainage and that issue will be tackled by this board.
