Digital Message Board for the City of Knox to be Installed Soon

As motorists pass through the gates of Knox today they may notice a minor addition. However, over the next week or so they can expect to see a major one.

Mayor Dennis Estok told council members last night that work has begun at the site where the new message board will be installed. The footer has been poured and the pole has been placed. The remainder of the sign anticipated to be erected by Friday.

Council members first considered the possibility of installing the message board in back in March and approved the purchase June. At the meeting where they approved the purchase, members agreed to go with the larger option which is 5 foot by 9 foot.

The double-sided message board will be utilized to notify individuals about upcoming events and important alerts. The advantage of placing it near the entrance of the city on the bustling roadway of US 35/Heaton Street is that the sign will not only alert residents but the messages will also reach people who are passing through from out of town.

Mayor Estok noted that once the sign is completely installed, crews will still have to run electricity out to it and it will need to be programmed before it will be fully operational. He said they’re expecting it to be up and running by sometime next week.
